Gary Carter - former catcher with Mets, Expos, Dodgers and Giants - has four small tumors on the brain. They don't yet know the prognosis...he's going for more tests.

Man, that sucks. I remember him as a Met being a major PITA to the Cubs any time they met.

One of those opposing players you want to hate, cause he always finds a way to hurt your team.

Hope it works out OK for him. Too many great old players going away lately.

I wonder if the PVC used in construction of places like Montreal Olympic Stadium (where Carter played as an Expo) might have something to do with it...

Heard this story over the weekend. Oddly enough I had a conversation with a couple guys at the gym about him just last week about what hat he wore to the HOF.

Uhhh...it's entirely likely your domestic water may be delivered in a PVC pipe. I've designed one or two like that over the years. Let's leave the engineering to the Professional Engineers here, ok?

I'm still trying to figure out what this has to do with the bad news about Carter.

^ Probably nothing. Just my innate paranoia kicking in...Plus I heard somebody on baseball-fever.com say it. I certainly didn't mean to insult any real engineers.

Never mind. Forget I ever said it. Let us all just hope Gary recovers.

Not insulted, but I've designed potable water distribution systems using PVC pipe. It's a cheaper alternative to ductile iron, and less prone to fouling and corrosion. And hey, it beats lead.

Get better Gary!

Thoughts and prayers are with Gary. He was always one of my favorite players as a kid.

It's not looking good... :(

I'm watching the Mets game right now. The Mets broadcasters just said that there is a 90% chance that the tumors are malignant. This link confirms. :(

God bless you, Gary. Keep fighting this.

Bump:

It's taken a turn for the worse. :(

Doctors found more tumors. They're considering whether or not any more treatments would even do any good... Link

Gary Carter was a hero of mine when I was a kid. He was a hero to a lot of kids. It was always funny seeing all these kids in Ontario with Montreal Expos hats.

RIP Gary.

He was one of my favorite players as a kid. He never played for them, but the Denver Bears were Montreal's farm team, so as a kid, my favorite team was the Expos.

RIP, Kid.
