In order to learn what works and what doesn't, I need to have an effective computer opponent. I can't learn anything playing against someone much better than me, least of all which particular twitch will give me a 1% advantage in a particular situation.

I'd be impressed and happy if they hit that date
As far as the game itself, I am doing a bit better. I am still Copper, but I'm flirting with Bronze. I have had some success with Protoss using the "Proxy Gateway" strategy - where you build a pylon and two gateways outside of the enemy base ASAP. It's definitely tricky to recover and win if that fails, however.
Yeah be careful, if it doesn't work you're toast, and it's not going to work against anyone of a certain skill level (say, silver+) unless you execute it perfectly.
yeah, even at Bronze level it's only I'd say 50% effective.
I honestly never liked playing Starcraft multiplayer. It was just too chaotic and too twitch. And there were no real training tools as the AI was pretty useless.
However, I have enjoyed watching some matches are they are pretty entertaining. I just don't like having to spend dozens of hours practicing and training to even be competitive against the worst players.
I did enjoy the Single Player story in SC1, so I might check it out when there is a battlechest after the expacs come out.
