[GAME] Special Season-V moments (and beyond) | Episode-by-Episode

Mach5

Admiral
Admiral
I know that there was a similar game in here before, but that was ages ago.
So, the idea is to continue where NCC-1701's thread left of.

Be creative, have fun and do your worst. :D

The Good that men do, part one:
I love the scene were they retcon Trip's shitty death scene in TATV. Really gave me a lot of hope for Season 5.
Next up: The good that men do, part two.

"The Good That Men Do, Part II"

Great to see Enterprise's revival moving away from the restrictive 42 minute structure. As this was the second part of a three-hour mini-series, (not unlike Battlestar Galactica's 2003 pilot). Real event television split over two nights.

In any case, it was great to those Romulan Warbirds again from "Minefield". Anyone notice they had been given a fresh coat of paint, decorated underneath? There was a great moment with the firefight aboard one of their vessels. Both sides wearing EV suits, dim lighting, so neither side got a clear view of each other.

That devastating attack on a planet in Coridan system for the final act. Wow, they really left the best FX moment until last didn't they? Leaving us with cliffhanger... now that was a risky move, considering further TV Movies hadn't even be greenlit. It paid off though.

Just a quick sidebar note: Wow. The first openly gay characters in Star Trek's history. I'd never have expected it would be Trip's brother (who we meet with his partner). Note to the producers, be more representive of our enlightened age and next time, make a semi-regular character aboard the ship gay instead. This felt like a token jesture and while I'm not offended myself, I could understand the complaints I was reading at various messageboards back in 2007.

The worst part of it was the waiting, but they did fill the gap by rerunning some of the better Enteprise episodes, including Babel One/United/The Aenar (even TATV again) which made sense. So not all bad, I guess.

After a wait that seemed to go on for many months... we got rewarded with "The Kobayashi Maru, Part I" didn't we? ;)

"Kobayashi Maru", pt1

I really liked those flashbacks of T'Pol's, particularly the one with those Vulcan zombies. The camera work and the lighting was amazing, it was really scary and exciting.

The "other" flashbacks (involving the couple of naked sweaty commanders) were a little over the top, I could have sworn I caught a nipple there for a split second, but on second viewing I realized it was only wishful thinking.

Next Up: Kobayashi Maru pt.2 (some serious steam in that one)

Kobayashi Maru, part two

Archer's duel with Admiral Krell was really cool. I really liked it, and the fact that they remebered Klingons have pink blood was very nice too. Also, it's good to see Kolos was still alive. The fact that Shran showed up, and even joined the crew, even though it wasn't in the book, was great. He's one of my favourite characters.

Next up: Beneath the Raptor's Wing

Beneath the Raptor's Wing

I like the bit where the raptor eats the gazelle. Archer doesn't half look annoyed.

Next: the "comedy" episode Phlox Rox.

Phlox Rox

We finally visit Denobula, and find out that everyone there is as much a goofball as Phlox. It's a shame Archer couldn't convince the Denobulans to join the war against the Romulans. I thought the scene were all Phlox's 720 relatives came to greet him was pretty cool. It must've been very expensive to make up that many actors.

Next: Looking for Romulans in all the wrong places

^ Woah. Hold on there! You forgot to mention special guest star Dan Aykroyd as Phlox's in-law. Inspired casting and seeing him alongside Billingsley was eerie, in a good way.

Dan simply had to get that line of dialog in there, didn't he? I'm guessing it was improvised.

"We're just a couple of wild and crazy guys...."

"Looking for Romulans in all the wrong places"

I loved that one! Having Carmen Electra play that evil Romulan Commander T'Pink was such a treat (though David Hasselhoff royally sucked as Commodore Udo Fenstermacher).

My favorite moment:

When we find out that commander T'Pink is in fact T'Pol's alternate personality (like in "Fight Club"). The Blalock/Electra chick fight was awesome.

Up Next:
"The FG Conundrum"

The FG Conundrum

Ahh yes, the infamously poor episode of ENT in which it's revealed that Future Guy is none other than Riker. It's hard to pick out any particularly special moments in the good sense of the word (apart from the closing credits  ) although the teaser isn't that bad - Daniels appearing out of chef's soup pot always raises a chuckle, even if his explanation as to how he was still alive (that the other Daniels was a changeling, and had been for the past half season) is :brickwall:

If I had to pick one moment though, the scene where Riker tries to seduce Hoshi with his massive trombone, and she rejects him with the words "Back off, I don't fancy a Troi boy," always make me cheer. It was a clear signal that ENT was no longer going to resort to gratutious sexism to get ratings, and director Allen Kroeker's lighting of the Decon Chamber is particularly nice.

Of course, the final paradox, in which Archer travels back in time to the events of First Contact and blows up Earth to stop Past Riker ever becoming Future Guy make no sense at all, but as that was just a tie-in for the new Joss Whedon relaunch of TNG on the big screen (Patrick Stewart's still furious he wasn't asked to cameo) we can forgive it. (Although frankly, Braga's claim that this was all planned way back in S3, and is the reason that planet is called Azati Prime, to distinguish ENT's timeline from the new movie TNG ones, seems a bit far fetched.)

Favourite Blooper: During the above Decon Scene, Peter Griffin can clearly be seen fighting a giant yellow chicken through the window. Seems someone confused their FGs.

Next Episode: The Return of Sluggo

(I almost fell of my chair)

"None Too Soon the Stars of Home" was a great episode told entirely from the perspective of Romulan and Reman cannon fodder. Officers and their grunts serving at the sharp end. It's here we learn a little bit about their Empire. How it isn't entirely invincible and could be crumbling from within, because of their class structure and slavery of the Reman race. Maybe you all remember this one too? Archer and his crew barely appeared in this. Maybe during Act 2 and then during the closing minutes, when the NX-01 fired on the approaching Romulan Warbirds. Sad how that Bird of Prey featuring all those characters we met over the 40 minutes became engulfed in the fireball. They never stood a chance really, as desserters attempting to seek safe haven with the Vulcans.

The kicker for me, was how they stretched established Treklore slightly. We aren't supposed to meet the Romulans but I'm glad nothing was ever said about the Remans.

It really deserves an Emmy this one, but being Sci Fi means even the anti-war allegory won't be enough to get it attention. As usual the Make-up and VFX depts got awards. That's something I suppose...
