Could you (if possible, without any major spoiler please :)) who was that guy who championed for the imp, and what's his deal? (mainly WHY?)
thanks

otherwise enjoyed this fantastic episode, and as soon as the girl said "he's nothing like his father" I was like "aaaaaaargh, now he's gonna figure it out!!", so that was a great plus also!

That would be Bronn, he was one of the group that helped Cat apprehend Tyrion in the Inn. And why he championed Tyrion? $$$$$$$$$$$$

It was kind of weird to note Jane Espenson was writing this episode, since I watched it back to back with the British premiere of an episode of Caprica (they're finally showing the back half of the first season here).

The series contains such a strong authorial voice of its own I wouldn't have noticed the screenwriter if I hadn't caught the name, but since I did catch the name, I'd randomly guess that Tyrion's confession is very much her work.

Frankly, another solid episode. Game of Thrones has failed to disappoint, and by this point the series has really hit its stride. One thing I really noticed here was the musical cues, there was nice, thudding, ominous reverbration to make the subtext of some scenes a little more overt.

Harry Lloyd was indeed a fantastic Viserys and he'll be missed. He stole his final scene, most pathetically with the joy he lights up with when he finally thinks he's got what he's always wanted. Daenerys by contrast was pretty withdrawn this episode, more a topic for Viserys and Jorah to chat about from the sidelines. I'd say he stole the episode was Dinklage not predictably good at what he does.

Also, I vaguely recall novel fans being upset that Beric Dondarrion wasn't in last week's episode. Well, here he is now. Hello, Beric. He makes no impression at all, but that's frankly also true of his appearance in the first novel.

Frankly, Beric is more important as a stepping stone then he is as a character in general. I get why people like him - he has a kind of surreal metamorphosis, in a book mostly lacking such weird touches - but assuming a vague faithfulness to the book the guy will show up once more to be weird and undying and later on he'll give up his life to turn Catelyn Stark into something similar.

He's a cool cipher, I guess, is what I'm saying.

My memory insists that the scene with Bran being attacked happens later than this - book two, I think - but it could be wrong. Even if right, the scene came at a good time in the North's arc.

Also, I'd bet good money in the novels the Moon Door is an actual door that opens up to nothing. The idea of it being a drop in the middle of the throne room does make me wonder how the throne room is built, exactly, if nothing is beneath it - is it just jutting out from the mountain or something?

Not complaining, it's a pretty solid design all the same. While the novels have mercifully cut down on the ponderous ascent of the Eyrie, the Moon Door and the sky cell have done much to remind us how terrifyingly high that place is.

So... The Ros scene...
Are they going to end up replacing Shae with her? Makes me wonder.
I read somewhere Shae's already been cast, so I doubt it.

I think Roz was mostly there to give Theon something to do this year. It'lll be interesting if they had a purpose in sending her to King's Landing beyond writing her out of Theon's life, that said.

As rich as a Lannister.

A Lannister pays his debts.

You may have also noted the series has said the crown is significantly in debt to Tyrion's father Tywin, who - we're reminded this week - is a very bloody wealthy man indeed. The Lannisters aren't just golden in their hair, is what I guess I'm saying here.

And Bronn is just a sellsword - that is, a mercenary. He wasn't a knight like his opponent, which is why he had no interest in fighting honourably. All that matters is that sweet, filthy lucre. And what do those Lannisters have again?

Harry Lloyd has been absolutely excellent, he's managed to make Viserys despicable but also given him a touch of vulnerable pathos. Definitely will miss him.

Another excellent episode. Unlike IndyJones, I've been a fan of Jane Espenson's episodes on past shows, especially her work with Joss Whedon, so I wasn't worried about her involvement. Quite the contrary.

Tyrion was hilarious and Arya continues to be awesome (her reactions to Sansa were very amusing). Harry Lloyd was excellent. His perfomance and the way the character was written brought a bit more shading to Viserys than in the novel. I think this was the first time we've heard Daenerys called "Dany".

Out of curiosity -- how is the music for the series? Good, Bad, Indifferent?

Cheers,

The score isn't that noticeable, it is more of a ambiance to support scenes without calling attention to itself. I think it works well. It is not your typical bombastic thematic score like Star Wars or LOTR, far from it.

The ratings are in: a slight dip in the US with 2.4 million viewers for the first airing and 3.2 million with the encore airing (compared to 2.6 million for the first airing and 3.3 million including the encore for the last episode) and an increase in the UK to 626,000 viewers for the first airing.

A bit of off screen trivia: once the Northern Inuit portraying Lady was no longer needed for filming it was adopted by Sophie Turner, the actress who plays Sansa.

Okay, granted having molten gold (or molten anything) poured over your head would be disasterous - shock, skin and hair burned off, probably seared down to the bone - but would it be instantly fatal the way we saw? I mean, no vital organs were actually damaged. Unless his brain boiled. :). I'm picturing more of a lingering, screaming, slowly succumbing to madness and pain kinda death.

I really didn't like that guy. :)

Yeah, the melting point of gold is 1064°C. Bone doesn't melt at any temperature, it will only burn--at around 800-900°C. I imagine the gold would've disintegrated his scalp almost immediately, but would not have gone through the bone as quickly as he died. Hmm, where to find a volunteer to test this?

You could just as easily say the shock of the whole thing gave him a severe heart attack, which did him in.

Unless there's a vacuum between his skull and his brain (not that implausible considering his behavior) it's a safe guess a good amount of that heat was absorbed by his brain which is pretty important to living.

I thought the episode was great and didn't mind most of the changes. Although Tyrion's confession's didn't work for me since they felt like lines from a contemporary show that was slightly changed to fit this one. I was disappointed that the dire wolf scene was cut but I can understand why... but at this point you have to wonder why they even exist in the story given how little they have to do.

Episode 7 was also great. the only thing that sucks is that it'll be another week before episode 8 comes out.

What also puzzled me about the death scene was how did gold melt so quickly and the container it was in didn't? (Admittedly physics was never my strong point).

Has to be one of the most disturbing executions I've ever seen on tv; thankfully we had the hilarious scenes with Dinklage and his various masturbation metaphors as a counterbalance!

I actually found it more disturbing in the book, where Drogo...

Upended the entire pot onto Viserys' head instead of just pouring the molten gold down onto him.
I'm not really sure I needed to spoiler-tag that, since it's still basically the same, but I figured it's better to be safe than sorry. Still an excellent scene, though, thanks to Harry Lloyd's performance.

Assuming the pot was made from some sort of iron alloy (probably something resembling some crude steel), its melting point is about 500 C higher than that of gold.

We need a Mythbusters episode on this.
