Every episode so far has had what seems like an awkward ending, probably 'cause I'm left wanting more. :lol:
 
Having never read the books I know who everyone is but have trouble knowing their actual names a lot of times.

That was a bit startling! Then I was trying to figure out if it was a prostethic or not. :)

Between that, the male members, cleaving a horse's head off, bashing in a guy's face with a shield, sticking a sword into the guard's eye, and so on I really did feel like I was watching the aforementioned Spartacus.
 
Yeah, that poor kid is totally screwed up thanks to his mother. :lol: Hard to believe the son of Jon Arryn could have turned out like that, judging off of what we've learned about Arryn from other characters.
 
Excellent episode. Best one yet. The pacing was spot on, the exposition was nicely handled, there were lots of good character bits, and the blood is really starting to flow. The FX and design work for the Eyrie were outstanding.

Lysa Arryn and Robin were creeeeepy! That surely must have been a prosthetic breast given the child actor's age.

Some of the sex and nudity was quite explicit. It's not every day you hear the sounds of a blow job, even on HBO.
 
I'm a nitpicker, there is so much I did really enjoy such as the added scene with the king and queen, the altered scene with the king trying to get armored, etc.

But. . .

I found the Loras and Renly scene a bit disappointing myself, can't they just be men of their time who are also gay? We've seen how many intimate scenes and this has to be the one where they're engaged in manscaping and whining about this and that.

The sky cells weren't nearly as scarey as I imagined them myself.

My only other complaint is the broad daylight confrontation at the end. That would have played much better at dusk with a bit of rain; which is how, IIRC, it happened in the book.

There's so much I want to say to all your speculation, but can't... :p

Great episode. This is where the first book really kicks into high gear, and I'm looking forwards to getting back to Danyares's story next week, as I know where it's heading soon.
 
I thought the episode was great and the show seems to really hitting it's stride. Some of the casting choices I didn't initially like really worked for me this episode like Addy as King Baratheon and the kid that plays Bran. The King's conversation with the queen was great, and his look of shame as he admits to cersei that they never had a chance was well done. I had absolutely no problem with the pace or the exposition or anything they added that wasn't in the book. I was disappointed that Arya's cat chasing was shortened, but the light hearted nature of the scene wouldn't have worked with the atmosphere in an episode like this.

Agree on both counts - those sky cell scenes take my breath away in the books, where the floor slopes and you can't even sleep for fear of rolling over. But those rooms were huge!

With Loras and Renly, I'm very happy to see their characters fleshed out and their relationship made more explicit, but part of what I liked in the books is that being gay unmans neither of them. Renly and Loras are pagaent knights rather than battle-tried knights, true, and they love both themselves and each other a little too much, but Renly's also meant to be the image of Robert as a younger man, not squeamish and petulant. I did like scheming Loras though - "Why should power be the province of the worst?" is pure Tyrell.

I loved the tournament scenes too, and I have to say the horses were doing some fantastic acting there :hugegrin:

Oh, and the belly? Epic.

After a somewhat middling premiere performance followed by a steady second episode, this is now the third week in a row Thrones ratings have gone up. And given the show’s storyline is picking up the pace for a dramatic second half of the season, these numbers could continue rising and turn Thrones into a bona fide hit. Intensely serialized shows like Thrones rarely climb like this, and when they do they tend to become titles that have healthy lifespans.
