I'll agree on Tyrion, but while Arya is plucky her arc is... well...

Meanders too much for my liking. We spend ages on Arya lost with Gendry and Hot Pie and serving dishes in Harrenhal and all of one paragraph on Oxcross, which I think kind of shows the flaws in having novels told mostly from a select series of third person perspectives - what to do when the characters aren't up to anything really worth my time.

Jon has by far the more entertaining story, but I'd also concede he's not as interesting as Arya - but no mind, we get Samwell Tarly there and I hope the actor we've got does him justice.

Still, it remains uncanny how good that girl seems to be for Arya.

I'd probably give the nod to Ned Stark, Samwell Tarly, Stannis Baratheon, Aeron Damphair (guy deserves his own novel) and Cersei Lannister as my other favourite characters, a pretty eclectic selection that I'm sure says far more about me then I'd want it to.

Another excellent episode, with more room for the story to breath now that much of the exposition is out of the way (although they still haven't got around to really explaining who Theon is to the non-reader audience). Rickon continues to be the invisible Stark (although I think he was glimpsed briefly in the first episode). Not that I'm complaining - the littlest Stark has has always been thoroughly superfluous in the books.

The music is growing on me, especially the title music. The changes in the title sequence to mirror the story as it unfolds is working out great. The house sigils next to the credits is a clever idea and it looks like they've ironed out the problems from the first episode where three or four of the cast had the wrong sigil next to their names.

Maisie Williams is outstanding - everything one could hope for in bringing Arya to life. Some of the scenes were really perfectly realized, particularly Tyrion slapping Joffrey. I expect that's going to be a very popular gif.

Dany had a rougher wedding night in the first episode than in the book, but she came to assert herself in the second episode more easily. In the book her situation seems so bleak that she wants to kill herself and it's only after a dream of dragonfire sweeping over her that she finds the strength to assert herself. In the episode the dream is replaced by her staring in fascination at the dragon eggs and seeming to draw strength from them.

Great episode. The pacing was much improved this week. They are doing a fantasic job adapting the book! Next week can't come soon enough.

The initial airing of the second episode drew the same audience as that of the first episode: 2.2 million viewers. The fact that it was Easter Sunday and still managed to hold steady is a good sign, especially since many shows shows see a decline for their second episode. Hopefully the audience for the show will build as the season runs on and continue to do so through the second season.

Edit to add: the 11pm encore screening of the second episode likewise drew a number (732,000) very close to that of the first encore screening of the first episode (755,000).

I liked it better than the first episode. Less exposition, the pacing was better and everything seemed to move by at a decent pace. My wife who is a non-reader was able to keep up with everything..so I think as a newbie she is following along at a good rate

Just watched it this afternoon via On Demand.

Very cool. I want a direwolf now...though, from my own experience, I'd say a chow mix would be the closest thing. Now that was a loyal dog!

Also, Peter Dinklage is awesome.

that kinda makes you think that those direwolf's have a telepathic link with their masters.... meaning they seem to know when their master needs assistance...

I havn't read the books... didn't want to be as disapointed with this television show as I was comparing the sword of truth television show.
but, I have downloaded the audio books, So I may listen to it one day...
