Game of Thrones 4.1 - "Two Swords" - Rate and discuss

Solid opening, I really enjoyed the season opener. I cannot decide which show I like better, TWD or Game of Thrones - both hands down are the best on TV today. I wonder how HBO measures viewership - success v. failure - since they are not advertiser driven. Perhaps by the number of people signing up solely for this show?

The ice zombies - at least for me - are a tad bit over the top even for a fantasy show. I guess their Achilles heal is a stab in the back as opposed to through the brain as with most traditional zombies?

It's amazing to me that shows like this and TWD can get such first rate actors while network TV struggles with more well knows e.g. Michael J. Fox to find an audience.

No, it has nothing to do with where they're stabbed; it's what they're stabbed with. They're vulnerable to blades, spearpoints, and arrowheads made of dragonglass, like the dagger Samwell found at The Fist of the First Men. It causes them to shatter into pieces.

Thanks for explaining that. I forget the characters name who killed the ice zombie but he's an idiot then for leaving it behind after killing the creature since I'd imagine such blades are rare.

Another general observation of GoT: Short of straight hard-core porn, I've never seen a TV show - cable, pay TV or not - that has as much sex and nudity as this show. Maybe it's just me but it's so frequent that the viewer IMO becomes kind of numb to it after a while and it adds at some point little to the story.

Then again - I'm gay - so most of the nudity is tits and pussy and not dicks so they are playing it up to the wrong audience at least in my case. :)

Samwell found a cache of them. He has more than one*. And he left that one behind as he was scared shitless and felt the need to FLEEEEE!



* At least, I think he does. I'll look like a right noddy if he doesn't....

They are vulnerable to dragon fire and weapons made from dragonfire like dragon glass and Valyrian steel.

I don't know how to tell you this, but you've actually been watching HBO Late Night's "Game of Bones" instead of the show we've all been watching, which is lighthearted family fare about a girl and her pet hound roaming the countryside looking for chickens that escaped from the happy farm she lives on with her totally all still alive family.

Sharp observation about the sex and nudity, though. I don't think that's ever been mentioned anywhere in four seasons of the show. :p

Ok smart ass. I'm a newbie to GoT this year and a new HBO subscriber thanks to a special that Att Uverse was offering in combination with a promotional price.

Just sayin man. I was disappointed however that the Lannisters broke-up the orgy that was about to happen between the new character and the blonde boy. :devil:
 
I know, I was just ribbing you because it's gotten a lot of press, and SNL parodies, and YouTube videos, and so on and so on... In fact, they just had a George RR Martin parody on Weekend Update on SNL the night before last where the nudity was brought up.

What's amazing about that to me is that HBO isn't even advertiser driven yet is investing a whopping, $6 million / episode to make the series.

Moreover, compare that to The Walking Dead's $2.8 million budget per episode, , which gets much higher ratings, and they are making a huge profit/episode at $8 million

As for how much AMC makes per episode of The Walking Dead, with this number we can pretty accurately calculate it: If there are about 18 minutes worth of 30-second commercials during a single episode, that means AMC makes about $11 million off an episode. Subtract the amount of money it takes to produce an episode—according to The Hollywood Reporter, $2.75 million—that means that AMC is profiting a healthy $8 million every week off of TWD. Not bad! Just don't tell

Damn that HBO Nordic website is annoying. Tried to get widevine working for half an hour yesterday. Finally did get it to work. No idea what was wrong.

Quality of webfeed has increased immensely from start of the third season, but I think that I could still easily acquire better HD quality video files from other sources.. But atleast I'm contributing my 9,95€ to HBO :D

And the episode was great :) So many big things coming up this season.
 
^ And HBO does tend to take a very broad view of these things, compared to many networks. They kept renewing The Wire, whose ratings were through the floor and which never got nominated for awards, on the basis of its critical acclaim and their own belief In the show and David Simon. So you can imagine how much stock they must place in GOT.
