I think I prefer just one ongoing thread for Seasons (ala Walking Dead & Agents of Shield for example) rather than ones for each episode, but whatever.

Looking forward to this, it's been a while

I think I prefer just one ongoing thread for Seasons (ala Walking Dead & Agents of Shield for example) rather than ones for each episode, but whatever.
We had separate episode threads for the first three seasons, so I figured I'd continue with that. We could switch to a single thread if most people want to. We'd just lose the poll for each episode.

I saw a preview at the Belfast film festival a week and a half ago, though I'll be re-watching. I vote excellent, I think the the strongest season opener they've had, albeit quite a talky one. No spoilers until the rest of you see it though.

Why, yes, I *am* staying up to watch new Game of Thrones at 2AM, simulcast with the US airing...

So, yeah, the season 4 premiere was great. Easily the best season opener since the original season 1 premiere. Nice bits for everybody. Damn that was worth staying up for.

Not mad about the new version of the end title music though.

Who'd have thought the Hound would have a line like *that* one - I am so having that on a t-shirt...

I'd put it above the first season opener personally, but only just. That may change in repeat viewings of both though.

Lots of deviation from the books here in the detail, but still on point for the big beats.

Overall it bodes well for the season.

Good episode but not great episode. I give it an average. It seemed to have dragged a bit. It almost felt as if they could sense they are running out of material so they're stretching stuff a bit.

Liked it a lot, they hit all the notes they needed to... Nice bit not actually saying where the Valyrian steel came from lol. All we really missed was Littlefinger, but of course he's busy heading for the widda Arynn... And she's about all that'll be scarier than the Thenns lol.
At least until we see drunk Cersei again, of course.
....and the Greyjoys/Boltons/portions of Theon plots of course. We'll get those piece by piece.

Had to just make this :)

Good episode, not amazing, but can't say I was expecting the first episode to be super duper amazing. Obviously it's gonna be a slowish introduction to the 8 million characters.

I'm not sure it even works that well as a weekly show, I watched Season 1 & 2 via DVD and ate them up when I wanted. Whereas I became frustrated waiting through Season 3 via TV, and I get the feeling the same will happen with s4. Just saying I think the show works a lot better when watched in quick succession rather than dragged out over 10 weeks.
I, and I suspect many others, would much prefer a House of Cards style deal of just releasing it all at once.
I can't really see that happening though, with all the spoiler problems it would create for those behind, but still, I can dream...

^ I've found that a lot of shows work better when you can marathon all or a bunch of episodes in one go. Waiting a week between episodes can certainly be frustrating.

I thought this was a great episode, a nice introduction to the new season. I really liked Pedro Pascal as Oberyn Martell. He doesn't really match the character as I pictured him when reading the book, but that's not really a big deal for me. The performance is more important IMO. I also like the new Daario Naharis much better than last season's. He seemed to convey Daario's personality better than his predecessor did. And that final scene with Arya and the Hound was pure excellence.

It wasn't one of the best episodes but it was pretty good. Oberyn Martell will be one to watch. Arya Stark and the hound make a nice pair and can't wait to see where that leads. I was hoping to see more up north, did Rickon make it there safe? The Dragons has gotten bigger (and meaner), wonder how far we are from them being rideable.

I'm pumped for this season.

Nicely dine..

A few differences. From what I recall in the books but not major

Jamie looked so different to me that for a minute I thought it was a different actor...

A solidly written and compelling opener that gave a good bit of coverage to most of the major surviving characters, introduced a couple of interesting new ones, set up the direction of things to come, and hopefully bodes well for the rest of the season.

The drastic change in appearance of Daario Naharis was a bit jarring, but since neither approaches the weirdness of the character's look as described in the books, it makes little difference, other than making me do a double take for a moment. I prefer this new guy to the previous one, though.

Hardcore (and hilarious at the start with The Hound's taunts) bit with Arya and The Hound, who are the most unlikely but enjoyable dynamic duo I've seen onscreen in quite a while. Loved the looks on their faces when they rode off from the inn with their belly's full, their bloodlust satisfied, and a horse for each of them.

Sad bit of Roman/Spartacus comparison with the slaves being crucified as a warning to those approaching the city. Of course, it will have the opposite effect from its intent on Dany.
