Tyrion is still the coolest centre of the show.. ever. His character is awesome to the max and they found apparently the only actor who could do him justice.. this episode broadened him to include badass battle leader and it didn't come off as cheesy at all. Tyrion understands people and knows how to direct them so command comes naturally for him.. he can defend his own and even take out a full grown soldier if the odds are in his favor but i'm happy that his limits are shown when the odds are not stacked in his favor and he has to fight an experienced warrior.. well, women dig battle scars so i've been told
Peter Dinklage for all the awards!
Seriously, it'll be a serious competition for Emmys this year, with Breaking Bad being eligible after an insane season ...
The wildfire explosion was well done as was Cersei's descent into madness.. i got a last days of Hitler in his bunker vibe from it when she tried to poison her own child.
I wasn't thinking about it when I saw the episode, but it's the most suitable comparison.

Davos' fleet drummers are fans of Marilyn Manson! When they started I thought they were going to do "The Beautiful People"! :D

That was amazing. I just sat there in awe for half the episode. Fantastic use of their limited budget to get the most bang (literally) for the buck. As soon as the episode ended I immediately watched the encore presentation, it was that good.

Bronn versus the Hound would be a great fight.

How badass was Stannis during this? He just shrugs off the destruction of half his fleet, is the first to land amidst the flaming arrows, and is the first up the ladder, where he almost single-handedly holds off dozens of the city's defenders.

I loved Sansa's shaming/maneuvering of Joffrey into doing things he doesn't want to do because of his pride and arrogance, and while playing the game of being subservient and caring for him.

Of course, as always, Tyrion steals the show with his wit, courage, and charisma. His battle speech was great.

Drunken Cersei was a lot of evil fun as well.

Die, Joffrey, you little shit.

Great episode. Can't wait for the season finale next week. And then a long wait for next season.

You folks who've read the books just need to stop mentioning it, and anything that's different about the books.
:techman:

George R.R. Martin didn't write Baelor, he wrote the episode before that, "The Pointy End." He's said he'll write one episode a season, and... well, while "The Pointy End" was very good at juggling the series various plot threads, "Blackwater" is just one long sustained catharsis. If I'd have any criticisms, it'd mostly be that I don't think Sandor Clegane has been given enough time this season for us to really give a damn about his part of the story, but that's not really a fault with this very excellent episode.

As far as book comments go, I'd say the only important rule is to not talk, without spoiler text, about future content. So for example, most of this season has been based on A Clash of Kings, and dicussion on how the various plots of that novel vs how they've been handled in the series is fair game.

It's also true that there's one plot thread that's been taken from the next book, A Storm of Swords (Jaime and Brienne leaving the Starks), and mentioning that is fine, but not discussing stuff that happened in that book that hasn't happened yet in the TV series.

Etc. etc. Common sense rules apply.
Holy Mother of God and all her wacky nephews. . . wow. . what an episode. . .Is Martin contracted to write the penultimate episodes on all the seasons? If I'm remembering correctly, he wrote Baelor, too. . .

^ I'm sorry, Hyperspace, the spoiler tag works fine on my end, I don't see what I did wrong. Please explain.
You gave your spoiler tag as 'Next Week'. It should have read A Storm of Swords, since it's spoiling material from much later in the novel series.

It'd be like tagging spoilers for Mad Men season two and then making it about Mad Men season five.

Excellent episode, worthy of all the hype. It was quite strange to have a GOT all centred in one location but was anyone really interested in seeing anything other than King's Landing last night?

Too many highlights to name them all but I loved the scenes between Bronn and The Hound; Bronn actually coming across like a relatively sane sort by comparison! And not forgetting the Hound's 'Fuck The King's Guard. Fuck The King's safety. Fuck The King.' The spat between Tyrion and Joffrey (via their intermediaries) was also a hoot, as was pretty much anything with Tyrion. As usual. And, of course, Tywin/ Charles Dance got a characteristically show-stealing entrance.

I actually felt a little bad for Joffrey. For once, you got to see him as the scared child he really was. I kind of wondered if his behavior so far was not so much on account of being a genuine nutjob (although I think he's definitely not "all there") but more because he's acting the way he thinks a King should act--that is, tough, arrogant, and merciless.

Ah well. At least grandpa's here to do the heavy lifting now, right?

I'm glad Sansa got tired of sitting around with the other women. I mean, Cersei told her they're all just sitting there waiting to be raped. If that sort of talk didn't motivate her, nothing would.

This episode finally "sold" Tyrion for me. For most of the first season, he was a comic relief character. For most of this one, he's been scheming and playing things behind the scenes. This time, we got to see what he's made of--and he's clearly a braver man than the King he serves. Seems like a theme here, that the King's Hand is often a much better man than the King himself. Granted, I've only got two examples to go from.

But didn't he die or did he just pass out?

If they killed Tyrion after the Ned Stark fiasco, I'm not sure Weiss and Benioff would make it through the night.

REEDS AND BLACKFISH ARE IN

AHHHHH

That was pretty fucking amazing! Great tension in the buildup, great battle scenes, great scenes from Bronn and the Hound (My wife thinks if ever I'm split by a transporter malfunction, Bronn would be my good half, and the Hound the nasty half. Hm. Hysterical motivation speech from the Hound as well - I may have to have "Any man dies with a clean sword, I'll fucking rape his corpse!" as a sig at some point), bits of depth from Sansa and Cersei...

All to the good!
