Galileo Seven remastered

Delta Vega

Saw it for the first time the other day and have to say I was blown away by the enhanced and additional special effects.
Excellent treatment of the original print and it looked fresh as a daisy.
One thing that hadnt changed over the years was how badly the crew, except Scotty, behaved towards Spock.
The amount of insubordination was cringeworthy and you wouldnt have blamed Spock for a couple of Vulcan neck pinches delivered to the scowling Boma and Gaetano.

...Who may well have been civilian scientists with "honorary" rank. Think McCoy to the third power.

Yeah, well refurbished, this one.

Great job by the TOS-R group, though i would have liked the 'flare' from the pods to have been kept a reddish hue. Also a nice shot of the Galileo lifting off would have been fun, with the beasties being tossed off.

I just rewatched it also. It looked great. Nice engine plasma burn effects at the end. The work they did remastering TOS was top notch:bolian:

I remember in some syndicated prints from the late 70s, one could just make out where the optical crew cropped the shots of the shuttle to eliminate those eelments filmed beyond the edge of the blue screen backdrop. As the shuttle moved across the screen I could see an ever changing polygon around the vessel, the stellar background just a slightly different contrast from the rest of the shot.

Now that's not meant to mock the original effects. I suspect it was just a fluke of the reprinting process, making those synication copies. But it did provide an insight as to how they handled the shots. I've seen the same thing in some prints of Star Wars, so at least the shuttle's in good company.

Sincerely,

Bill

It was a regular thing for me watching the old reruns on TV to see that square or polygon of a slightly lighter black move across the screen with ships.

Technically, that's called a Garbage Matte.

I wasn't taken with the remastered effects for this episode, especially those at the end, specifically the fuel jettison and the re-entry, which looked like 10-year old CGI effects even when they premiered.

I couldn't help but notice what a wobbly launch from the Enterprise they gave Spock in the remastered version. The man's piloting skills are better than that!

Also, I noticed the rear wall of the Enterprise's hangar deck was totally undetailed - it would have looked a lot better if they'd replicated the look said wall had in STV, with a couple of large garage doors and a turbolift.
