Galileo 7 redesigned

RAF-MX

Ensign
Newbie
At first I had my doubts , big ones about Trek XI, ( I don’t like the new bridge ! ) , but eventually I realized that is a great new vision... I mean that from the standpoint of design, ( I'm an industrial designer ), is incredibly difficult to do something different with a concept that has 40 years in our minds.
Make something new and yet be recognized as part of the Trek universe...that's the real challenge....

So here is my personal bet on the Galileo 7 redesigned
I kept the original proportions of the Galileo 7, but I have redesigned the back impulse engines.
As you can see is just as square as the original but with rounded details to give a slight different look.. I also have to redesign the rear landing gear ...
Right now I’m working on the redesigned interior and some other functional details...Always there is something to change or improve....

Does the lower section of the door fold down? If so, it's gonna clunk into that nacelle at an angle.

You're right, due to the redesign of the nacelle, the problem emerged when opening the main door.
Right now I'm designing a way to deploy the door in a different way, and I am trying to incorporate it to the new design .

Maybe this diagram will help explain how I develop the redesign of the door ... maybe! ...This is only one of the many possible solutions....

The door was divided into two sections that slide and a lower platform unfolds ...perhaps with some steps

Hmm... Ditch the lower part which slides to one side, and instead make it one with the upper part of the door. No need to make things like that too difficult ;)

Hmm. Well executed, but I'm afraid that like what we've seen of Trek XI this looks more Star Wars than Star Trek. Doesn't work for me.

Wow I like this way more spiffy than the TOS shuttles :techman::drool:

though were can i see the real ones for this movie?

Excellent job RAF, great details!

I think this can fit in the TOS universe just fine. I'd say it is more a heavy duty version of the normal 'administration' shuttle. Made to go into more harsh environments. Less streamlined than the other variants, it sticks to space-to-space transport or landing on airless worlds/asteroids.

:techman:

Thank's for your comments gentlemen ..

You're right Borgman...so what about this ?

...it looks better !!

Thank’s RedSpar, your work with the original shuttle is really awesome and inspirational to me.

I think the feet on the landing gear should fold out while extending, so that when fully extended they make a much larger footprint for more dispersed weight distribution on a planet's surface. I say this because it looks like the entire weight of your ship is resting on only thus feet and not the nacelles. On some plantetoids, the terrain may not support that.

Nice. I remember this from when you posted it over at SciFi-Meshes.

Is there even a slim chance you would let me convert it over to Blender? :)

Very well done! I'd have liked it to go sleeker rather than clunkier - see an entry about the original shuttle and a sketch and Doug Drexler's blog here - but the execution is quite good. :D

I miss the TOS shuttles side panels extending out past the end of the hull. I'd suggest carrying those out to bracket the impulse engine.

I also hate that you made the underside of the nose angled instead of curved.

The technical side of things seem quite good. However, the style seems a bit mixed 'n matched. The modifications on the hull of the shuttle are very subtle, while the impulse engines and warp nacelles are quite extensively modified. Perhaps if you modify the main body as well (make it sleeker - less boxy - without losing the sharp corners and folds), it might look better overall.

I think it has more of a "Koerner-prise" look to it than an "Abrams-prise" feel.
