Galaxy With Grid

Lorna

Lieutenant Commander
I'd like to get my hands on an image of the Milky Way Galaxy with a grid over the top of it. I'm looking to have it 20 squares up and 20 squares across so each square represents 5,000 lightyears.

Can anyone help me out?

Uh... not sure but is this what you want?

No. I want a full spiral galaxy, a normal Galaxy picture, with a grid over the entire Galaxy and I don't want any Star Trek empires marked on it.

But thank you for replying.

Heh, I had photoshop open anyway...

Hopefully this is what you want.

wow that's brilliant. Thank you very much! it's better than I was even hoping for! :D

Why not? We're only looking at it from a top-down view.

A 3-d view probably shows us that the Federation is a blob that curves around the Klingons.

That and space is space, so continuous borders are silly, anyways.

True. Happily, it's lunchtime around here. :)

^I just can't remember ever seeing it represented like that.
Andrew Probert's map art for TNG "Conspiracy" portrayed it like that, with the Romulan and Klingon realms represented by gaps in a grid of cubes set in one plane. For this and various other reasons, the Star Charts by Geoff Mandel also does the same, and the above map is based on that. But yeah, it's supposed not to be an isolated island of UFP space, but merely something that looks isolated in 2D.

This is the Probert artwork, although the person whose credit appears in the image has inserted the names of a few additional Trek locations (Trill, Cardassia, Bajor, Ferenginar), and has changed the original "Kling" into "Qo'noS".

The colour co-ordination isnt exactly easy to differentiate...i'd make them filled in blocks with the opacity at 40%, just to give the colour more area to "breathe" so to speak.

^^^That's the Dominion in the upper left/Gamma Quadrant.

....All the more reason for clearer colours :P
