Galactica^3

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
Just a very bizzare story idea. I had not too long ago. Criticism is welcomed.

=============================================

Water is a precious resource in space. It can be recycled, but there is always some loss. Even the most water-efficient ships need to replenish eventually. Galactica wasn't the most water-efficient of ships. She used it to make fuel for her thrusters. She split to to make oxygen to replace loses. Her crewmen sweat and they drool and she has no way to claim that fluid. And she had to supply water for over fifty thousand civilians, most of whom lived in ships that didn't have any water recycling systems at all. Few were designed for long duration flights and none were intended outside of Colonial space.

The Battlestar Galactica and it's Rag-Tag fleet of colonial survivors blinked into exitance in the middle of a 7-planet system with a yellow star. All of the worlds were uninhabitable but the third planet, a dusty red ball, had ice caps full of usable water, one of the moons of the largest gas giant was covered in ice, and there were quire a few ice comets in very distant orbit.

"Unidentified Dradis Contact."

"Cylon?" Commander Adama asked.

"It doesn't appear to be", replied Gaeta. "It's a cube, about ten meters on each side orbiting the star between the second and third planets. It's emitting low levels of EM radiation."

"Nuclear?", inquired Saul Tigh.

"No, sir. It's just emitting radio waves, no particles X-ray or gamma-rays."

"Send a Raptor to get a closer look", Adama ordered.

1 Million Years Earlier

"It's a suicide mission, brother."

"No, Prime, it is a mission to save our people. As long as a single Cybertronian lives we will be remembered."

"I can't let you go alone."

" I won't be alone, Prime. You know that. You have your own mission, to preserve the Allspark and to lead the survivors to a new home."

"I--"

"You know that it is right."

Optimus Prime could only watch with resignation and regret as his closest and oldest friend transformed and flew away from the Ark and toward the Decepticon battlefleet. He didn't move move until the spacefighter was too far away to see with his naked optics. When he could no longer see his friend in the distance he cleaned the lubrication from his optics and strode onto the bridge of the Ark.

"Bumblebee, launch as soon as the Ark reaches maximum capacity."

The Arks were operating on lifeboat rules, hatchlings and protoforms first. The vast majority of comba-capable bots were out in space, making a last desperate stand to buy the escaping Arks more time. Very few Autobots with functional combat modes had seats in the evacuation fleet and few of those wanted the ones that they had. It was a hard duty, to abandon their home, to run away without putting up a fight. But it had to be done. The protoforms couldn't tend to themselves and they'd die in their cacoons without a steady supply of energon.

Megatron, Supereme Commander of the Decepticons, Lord Protector of Cyberton, joined his battlefleet with pride in his heart, not pride for himself but for the brave Transformers who floated beside him. The traditionalists who fancied themselves Autobots refused to wear the insignia, but that didn't matter. They were all Decepticons today. This is why he created the organization, to defend Cybertron against all threats, by any means necessary, no matter what the cost. This time the cost would be their lives, they all knew it. Nothing could stand against the Chaos-bringer. But if they could slow him down long enough for the Arks to escape their lives would be well spend.

The most obvious were the great Living Cities of Cybertron: Typticon, Metroplex, Fortress Maximus, and Megazarak. Each city once held millions of citizens, citizens who are now either fleeing in the Arks or fighting alongside their homes.

After the Cities, Omega Supreme was the most prominent member of the fleet in terms of size and firepower. The last of the Guardians of Cybertron, Omega Supreme was the oldest of the Transformers present. He predated the Cube and even the Primes. His kind fought Unicron to a standstill once and he was the only survivor of that battle.

All of the Great Ships added their firepower to this battle as did all of the Combiners. The Dynobots, never willing to pass up a fight, had traded their seats on the Ark for last minute flight conversions. Even that coward Starscream had accompanied his Seekers to the battle.

Megatron's loyal friend and right and, Soundwave, floated by him as always, providing communications with the 20 million strong defensive armada.

They didn't stand a chance.

Ark-7 exploded, a stray beam coring it and passing through as it if were tissue paper. In response The other Arks slowed and came into formation behind Ark-1. All of the Arks were invaluable because of the innocent lives they held but Ark-1, The Ark, was special. It was carrying the Allspark, the Cybertronian race's most most holy relic and their only means of procreation. Without it there was no hope for survival.

A second Ark exploded, then a third. By the time the fifth Ark exploded Optimus Prime couldn't stand it anymore. He couldn't sit idle while his people were using their lives to shield his. "Bumblebee, you have command. Tell Ultra Magnus that the fleet is his." With that the leader of the Autobots ran toward the Arks' exit ramp and leaped out.

Optimus Prime transformed to his space combat mode and set course for Unicron.
