Gal Gadot cast as Wonder Woman In ‘Batman Vs. Superman’

Wonder Woman should probably get her own thread soon.

New pictures from the set in the UK.

You see Gal is dressed like female British soldiers from the WWI era.

Everything looks really good so far. Best wishes to this movie and the production.

The setting is really intriguing, rarely explored in superhero comics. Is this dealt with in any WW comics?

No, Wonder Woman normally deals with WWII. I suppose they wanted to avoid retreading ground Captain America TFA did, as a WWII period piece.

It's amusing, because Captain America debuted in March 1941, and Wonder Woman debuted in December of the same year. Steve Rogers (Captain America) is in the army and wears the star and stripes. Wonder Woman wears the stars and stripes as a way to honor the country she is visiting, and her companion is named Steve Trevor. Trevor who is also a member of the US army and looks a lot like Rogers. In Sensation Comics, WW worked as a secretary for the US offices, but would change to WW when she needed to fight Nazis.

I really like the WWI idea myself. It's an era that hasn't been explored nearly as much it seems, let alone in a superhero movie. Plus, well... it's got those cool biplanes in it. :D

Of course more than anything, it's just awesome to see a real Wonder Woman movie finally being made.

I note a couple of things that remind me of the '70s Lynda Carter series.

1: Having the same actor play two different, implausibly identical iterations of Steve Trevor in the past and present.

2: Diana rocking a hat. Lynda Carter wore some very nice hats as secret agent Diana Prince in the modern-day seasons of her show.

Can Wolfman Jack at the disco be far behind...?

Oh, please, no identical ancestors/descendants. In worked in 1999's Sunshine (the Ralph Fiennes movie, not the Danny Boyle space flick), but only because the rest of the movie was grounded. To have identical ancestors/descendants and superheroes... that's Smallville-level tacky right there. :p

Well, the past/present Steve Trevor thing was done in the 1970s series. I'd rather they didn't do it here, but maybe they'll find a way to do it well.

In the recent comics, Trevor is US govt liaison with the Justice League, so he may have an ongoing role in the DC movies as a Nick Fury kind of character. Possibly he will cameo in BvS?

"Trevor as Fury" would be an interesting flip: in the Avengers dynamic, Fury is dark and intense, whereas the heroes tend to be quite light and flippant. If the DC heroes are going to be grimdark, it makes sense for Trevor to be the quip-maker. He could have a lot of fun with Bats: "Ooh, I'm so dark and moody!"

^ "Gov't liaison" suggests more of a Coulson than a Fury, especially given the DC-verse already has a Fury-ish figure in Amanda Waller.

And even Austin Powers had the sense not to do the identical ancestors thing. ;)

I meant Trevor would be Fury-like in his official relationship with the Justice League, but opposite to Fury in personality. When I said government liaison, I omitted to mention Trevor's also co-head of A.R.G.U.S., along with Waller. ARGUS is basically SHIELD, from what I can tell. I'm not really up on the current DC comic universe, but I imagine movie-Waller be busy with the Suicide Squad, so as to avoid confusion..

Yeah, it was Angela Bassett's Waller in Green Lantern who was intended to be a Fury-like crossover character unifying a shared universe, a plan that was abandoned when GL bombed. I don't recall if the same plan has been announced for Viola Davis's Waller.
