Gaith does Wonder Woman

Is this suit concept on the right track?

  • Yeah. The comics suit looks ridiculous and will never fly on the big screen.

  • No, the comics suit is fine! Which is why there've been so many WW movies already!

I have a hard time getting worked up about stuff like this since we all know they'll change it back after a year or two.

Not even that long. It's pretty clear this is just for a single storyline which will play itself out and then a new creative team will come along, push the reset button, and it'll be status quo again. Remember Superman Red/Superman Blue? Remember Supergirl's headband? Remember Catwoman's mod outfit? For that matter, remember when Wonder Woman stopped being a super hero, period?

The Big S, the Cowl, and the Swimsuit. They ain't going anywhere. Not in the long term.

I don't have a problem with a costume redesign....I do have one with this particular redesign. It screams "90's" with the little jacket and goofy black. Personally I like the outfit WW wore in New Frontier, similar to one at the begining of this thread.

The only thing worse than this costume is the storyline going with it. JMS is the new WW writer and basically something happens to Paradise Island in the past that alters reality around Diana. So basically the Wonder Woman book will exist in it's own universe for a year or so.

Sooooo....some Amazons smuggled her out of either the ruins of Paradise Island or before the attack, and they're living in NY. Diana becomes more of an "urban" heroine, with a smattering of mystical stuff from the few Amazons around NY. He said that some of the supernatural characters, like Deadman, Phantom Stranger and an Amazonian Oracle, may be aware of the change or get glimpses of the original timeline (like Guinan).

Part of the story will be WW finding out about the timeline change and working to restore it. Anything that's popular with the fans will stay through the restoration in some form. So the story is basically "WW meets Yesterdays Enteprise".

I love the new backstory. It's a great way to modernize the character while still having the mythological ties to delve into. Its a tad derivative of Superman Krypton backstory but its ok since its a basic trope.
It's a shame that things will probably be "put back" together.

The new costume is kind if bland. It gets major points for ditching the panties. The jacket looks very VERY 90s though. What I would do is keep these new tights, and have the top from the old costume, maybe fitted higher over her chest so it's less porn like. I like the new bracelets.

Here is still one pic of the new costume in action:

So Wonder Woman is like Phantom now - when she hits a person, they get that W mark wherever they were hit?

Evidently DC wants to get away from the red-white-and-blue-with-stars color scheme/design in hopes of boosting any WW movie's international profile.

^Why, exactly, would she want to wear the colours of a country her people just invaded anyway?

I think the colors and symbols haver been retconned into having meaning to the Amazons. Just a happy coincidence that Americans like them too.
