Future of Next Gen Lit??

Ambassador to Vulcan sounds like a job given to a policy wonk - a career politician whose talents lie on the bureaucratic side of representation. Picard I think would be better utilized as an ambassador-at-large or something. The man is almost the definition of a proven warrior-statesman. He's lead fleets, arbitrated treaties, installed heads of government, and pondered theoretical states of existence with Q - he'd be wasted updating numbers in the 217th annual Federation-Vulcan trade agreement.

He can do both - it's not like being ambassador to Vulcan would take up every moment of his time. I can easily envision Picard adopting a similar "roving troubleshooter" role to Kirk in The Lost Years. Meanwhile, Beverly takes command of the USS Pasteur. Junior Picard tags along with whoever, dependant on whether the author wants him around or not.

In this scenario, Captain Data's Enterprise would be bumped down to a cameo role, similar to that of the Aventine now.

A fan of moving away from Picard as captain, but not a fan of the prospects of Worf becoming captain (eleven seasons and four films as the character, talk about overexposure).

I think it's time for a true "The Next Generation", the current cast is really played out and is now the "previous generation".

Would like to see a novel that tied together the last days of Picard and the Enterprise-E and the early days of a completely new crew on a new Enterprise (with a new registry!).

And a renewed focus on seeking out new life and new civilizations.

^"Important" isn't the word. No tie-in is more or less important than any other. It's just not practical for different creative teams working independently on different schedules at the same time to make sure their work stays mutually consistent, so it's deemed better for each group to have the freedom to strike its own distinct course.

What about moving the current crew members up to the high positions. Perhaps with Choudhury as Captain, and Elfiki as XO.

Not really a big fan of the current 'novel-only' Next Gen cast. Think they need to wipe the slate clean and create new dynamics.

Ugh... I can hear the "should they use the Star Trek Online Enterprise-F design" arguments already:barf2:

Arguments about any major change or next major stage in Star Trek will happen regardless of what it is.

There's always going to be lots of people on the message boards who won't like it. It's the nature of fandom really...

I do like the current crew. But I do have to say it is time to do more with Geordi. He's just getting a tad stale. I can see Picard and family moving on or rather off the ship. As to who becomes captain, I think it would be Worf.

The problem as I see it is a lot here want the TV crew back even though Data is dead and Riker, Troi, and Ogawa have moved on. What I want to know i what do others feel is wrong with the current Enterprise main crew?

I don't see the problem with Worf as the captain of the Enterprise. Every Enterprise had a human caucasian male or female as the captain. Having an alien as the captain of the Enterprise would show the diversity of Starfleet.

Not against an alien captain in general, just Worf in specific. The character has bee so overused that I'm sick of him.

But in the current TNG storyline, Worf makes sense to be the next captain.
