Future of EVs

The travel charger has a 120v plug with several adaptors. The outdoor outlet appeared to be a standard 120v but when we plugged in the charger, the indicator light on the charger, which is typically green, was red. When we looked it up, the website suggested that the outlet could have incorrect voltage and to not charge. So we did not. Rather not kill our battery on the first week we had the car.
That's a good idea to follow the guidance.

Researchers at the University of Malta have pointed out that only a small amount of hazardous particulate matter comes from car exhaust pipes and is mostly generated by tire and brake friction. Switching to electric vehicles may not help solve the issue, so what should we do?

I would think regenerative braking would solve some of that--since it is field effect.

There is a new development in fuel cells--the carbonate-superstructured solid fuel cell (CSSFC)

Most fuel cells are powered by hydrogen — typically produced from hydrogen-containing compounds, most often methane — via an expensive process called reforming. But the CSSFC developed in Hu’s lab can directly use methane or other hydrocarbon fuels.

That would be a bridge at least to pure electrics.

Now, were I Elon--I would have left Twitter alone and bought Sonic.

The way those burger joints are made lends itself to repurposing as a recharging center.

Lots of parking spaces---electrical leads going to each individual stall....

By the time you eat you meal, your car is charged---play a vid-game and if you beat the others parked there---your recharge and meal both are free! That and a free toy from loot crate or something.

Now service stations are a destination, you see.

Put Star Trek sets in dead malls/movie theaters with server farms to pay operations even when foot traffic is low---recharge outside---play inside.

Elon is a tech head---but he doesn't get marketing.

The fill-up isn't something you dread---but something you seek now.

O/T
Now, if you want to get more voters---you are going to have to give up on diamond lanes and forcing the poor to get catalytic converters. In Birmingham, we had environmental courts that would haul away poor peoples cars they didn't have money to fix and give them a fine---and force the poor to get cars they couldn't afford to fix out of impound. That Gavin's gulag thinking has to stop. For the next 20 years---the DNC needs to talk about wages ONLY. Now Hollywood---in working with Sonic as a way to popularize recharging stations---can give the Green message a more positive bent.

Don't use the stick---use the carrot. Otherwise the poor stay home election time. I would advice a Mitch Landrieu/ Ro Khanna ticket, by-the-by.

I was thinking maybe public transportation with trolley type cars that don't touch pavement. Doesn't help rural communities much, though.

I've had my Bolt for six years now and Chevy replaced the battery pack last year, so should be good for another 5-6 years.
A nifty feature is the one petal drive. I rarely have to use the brakes except when going downhill with a full charge.

For those in Southern California, I drove westbound on 74 from Lake Elsinore to Rancho Mission Viejo, about 19 miles as the crow flies. This is a winding mountain road with a good elevation change at the start. I did it with net zero usage, meaning that I was able to self-regenerate the power used coming up the hill going down the other side.

I haven't seen a CE 04 on the road yet, and the local BMW bike dealer doesn't carry them, to my knowledge. Seems to lack storage space but it looks cool.

I'm now bummed out that GM appears to discontinuing production of the Bolt this year. Being removed to make other EV's at the same factory.

Fortnine reviews the $5k metacycle

There was some talk about a “Very Light Car.” If you can control traffic and just transmit power to a set of wheels that won’t crash…the car could be even lighter by not even needing much of a battery.

That you could tow…maybe swap out at recharging stations in rural areas like we did horses.

Better than junking the whole car, right?

Have tractor trailers be like Kilo-class subs—diesel electric.

FortNine built a fun little e-bike out of a thrashed old junk motorcycle and some cheap ebay parts.
