Future Class - my first ship design

FreddyE

Captain
Captain
This is my first try at my own ship design. (sorry...I´m not very good when it comes to drawing stuff).

I just started drawing and this is the result ;-)
For some reason it reminds me of "Captain Future"

The pic is the side view. (I just can´t draw top views at all for some reason...)

Needs a lot of refinement of course. Maybe someone who´s more talented can help?

Kinda reminds me of the Liberator from Blake's 7... If it had bigger nacelles (and 3). <sniffle> I liked that ship...

What I would suggest is rather then focusing on the overall look, focus on each part on a seperate drawing, like first focus a drawing completely towards the warp nacelles, then another on the saucer section, then play around with their placements so they suit your above drawing and connect both sections with a engineering/body section that best suits.

Usually when I attempt to drawing something as a whole object to get the overall look, I tend to miss some details or miss a chance to get into the minor details because I was focusing on the bigger picture.

But then I guess it all depends on your own perspective when drawing. Pretty interesting start mind you. Looking forward to seeing it progress.

How many nacelles does the ship have- four?

My take on the shape is that the primary and secondary hulls are both egg shaped. Is that what you have in mind?

You may want to try a simply draw programme on your computer. It'll help you make nice, clean, curves and straight lines.

And I'm curious how big it is. For me, that shape seems to suggest some sort of supply transport, or passanger ship...

About egg shaped is what I have in mind yes. The ship has four nacelles. I´m not sure about the size yet...but I was thinking either a regular passanger ship or maybe even a colonists ship. Right now I´m trying to make better drawings. I´m experimenting with pre-drawing on paper, scanning it into my pc and then "overlay draw" it in some drawing software.

Finished a new drawing. I have changed some of the shapes a bit, made the middle section a bit thinner.

The bigger, left part (Alpha section) can seperate. The light grey parts are part of the docking mechanism. After disconnecting that section would land on a planet chosen for colonisation. The remaining section (beta section) with warp assembly) would return to a base where another front part would be attached and then the ship would travel back to the planet etc. The semi rectangular parts of the Alpha Section are modules that will be pulled out of the Alpha Section´s space frame after landing and serve as living quaters, workshops, labs etc.

The ship has four nacelles. Only one pair is used at any given time. After the currently running pair needs to be switched off for cool down, the other pair becomes active (seamless switchover). This enables the ship to extend the max. travel time at high warp factors.

Right now I´m working on refining the design of each individual section and trying to add some detailing.
I´m thinking about possibly shortning the lenght of Beta Sections main (non warp nacelle assembly) part by half....not sure. I´ll draw a version with that tomorrow... thoughts?

looks intreasting just out of intreast would the forward egg be able to take off again or would it be stripped for the colony

When I was a kid, my best friend found something like this in his mother's nightstand.

Joe, can't put his finger on it
