Futurama: New Episode Order?

This is awesome news. The movies were kind of hit-or-miss, but I still enjoyed them, for the most part. Bender's Big Score and Bender's Game were both pretty good, while the other two were definitely weaker. Hopefully the new episodes will have a better balance, since the writers won't have to try and write four episodes that can work as both one story and individual episodes.

Awesome news! Now we just have to hope that a return to the half-hour format also means a return to greatness.

Well the 4th season was so long because of football that even after the show was canceled it had a 5th season.

I just go by the DVD Volumes.

I think the DVD Volumes are the production seasons. Overseas, I think the DVDs are listed as "Seasons" as opposed to "Volumes".

Fuck sake, the movies were all shit. Don't get me wrong I like Futurama, and I thought the last episode was a great send-off, but let it die already.

I haven't gotten around to watching the movies yet but I am currently watching the 5th season after having watched the first 4 seasons over the last few months. All I can say is that I love this show and would love to see new episodes!

???

The movies are considered to be the 5th season...

Depends on if you're counting based on production seasons or broadcast seasons. In terms of how the show was broadcast:

Season 1: Spring 1999
Season 2: Fall 1999-Spring 2000
Season 3: Fall 2000-Spring 2001
Season 4: Fall 2001-Spring 2002
Season 5: Fall 2002-Summer 2003

I just checked IMDB and the order I'm viewing them is the same as IMDB has them listed. The last one I watched was Less Than Hero.

Anyway, 26 episodes is great news. I like Futurama better than the Simpsons. Even my Mom got a kick out of them when I watched them while we were vacationing in Italy.

Yeah, that would make the most sense. I don't know why they aren't called seasons in the USA.

And yes the finale episode was a nice send off, and yes some of the movies (mainly the first one) have cheapened some of the show, but it's still great that it is returning because out of 26 episodes at least a few have to be amazingly awesome.

Simple answer - they're on dvd in production order. That isn't how they were aired. Some episodes from the second season weren't aired until season 5, in Fox's airing order.

So, to avoid confusion for people going by Fox's airing order, they label them as volumes.

^ Ohhh... I'm glad they stuck them on the DVDs in the right order. It drives me crazy when they are all mixed up like Sliders and Earth 2.

Well I'm convinced! :techman: Boo! Boo! Down with Futurama!

Will it air on FOX? Because they'll make a 26 season order air over the course of four years.

The article I just read over on sliceofscifi.com said that the contract gives 20th Century Fox the right to sell the new episodes to a broadcast network and let them air it first. If that happens, Comedy Central still gets to air it, but second, and they pay a reduced cost per episode. So in either case, it's win-win for the fans and Comedy Central.

They (Comedy Central) are splitting it up, airing two seasons of 13 episodes each. Sales of the movies and ratings for the series and movies were high enough to justify at least two new seasons, and we'll see what happens about a third new season later.

That sounds quite promising. My only issue is what the cast and writers will be doing after two years when they decide to do a third season. But if most came back after a six year hiatus... :)

Yeah Fox has the network TV rights, while Comedy Central has the cable rights. So no matter what it will be aired somewhere.

Well the good thing about voice work is you can have a pretty flexible working environment. I've heard of some voice actors having their own studio at home and just laying the tracks down over a conference call.

I'm glad a new season is coming - a return to the 22-minute format has to be good, really. Looking at the films as four lots of four episodes strung together into movies of varying quality, some 'episodes' were really good, whilst others not so much. The films came across as over-extended episodes with odd bits of filler, whereas single, 22-minute episodes will be better.

Hopefully.

Feh, I'll watch them anyway. I heart Futurama!
