been looking forward to this for a long time it seems. i've read conflicting things about the film though. that the film is set between Mad Max and The Road Warrior. also read that its a reboot.

So is this a total reboot?

My understanding is that it's in the same continuity as the Mel Gibson movies and is set between TRW and BT. George Miller, the writer director of the original trilogy, is once again writing and directing this one.

It's going to be odd to see someone else playing Max, given that it was such a signature role for Mel, certainly his best-known part before Martin Riggs (even before his antics of the last 10 years, he was often called 'Mad Mel'). I always thought it was a slightly odd choice for Tom Hardy to make but I think he'll give it an interesting spin.

It looks completely like a remake of The Road Warrior (yes, I know George Miller is at the helm).

It's probably a remake of TRW in the same way that Terminator 2 is a remake of The Terminator - same director getting to realise his vision with more money and better technology this time round. Road Warrior is the most fondly remembered of the original trilgy so it makes sense that the trailer at least, if not the whole film, evokes it.
