Funny tempest in a teapot (or short skirt) - Daily Mail criticism

as ive said, RTDs would only be looking at it for ideas on how to dress an attractive woman in a sexy way, which is something he really didnt do that well with Rose or Martha. Ok maybe there is a little more underwear in Anne Summers than is helpful to my point, I was just looking for an example of a shop that sold womens clothing which makes them even more attractive than they already are.

If girls wearing sexy costumes is part of Classic Who, then it should be part of New Who as well.

You might be right about the bin bag thing, if we wait long enough ITV 2 will test that out for us.

Then either New Look or Topshop is your choice, not Ann Summers and does that mean you've never been into one or been to it's website? You just decided on that shop, by what, reputation, that's where all your female friends buy their clothes for day to day life.

As for Rose and Martha not looking sexy enough, does it matter, they looked fine, they looked comfy in what they wore and I bet if you asked someone in the costume department about this, they thought that functionality and comfiness is better then sexiness.

I am sure that all the Classic series companions wore clothes from Top Shop or New Look?

You are of course right Rose & Martha looked fine, but again was that something we could say about the Classic Series companions. On the one hand you had Sarah Jane in some ridiculous outfits, but on the other you had Leela.

As for my use of Anne Summers

its a shame RTDs did not have Secret Diary of a Call Girl for refrence, when he was writing for Rose. Failing that an Anne Summers catalogue is a good place to start.
the suggestion of Anne Summers, was an attempt to think of somewhere where the sexy outfits of Call Girl could be found before it was on air. Anne Summers just the first thing that comes to mine.

My local Anne Summers window tends to favour costumes over underwear alot of the time, when im in the right part of town to notice.

Question Wamdue, why would Rose dress like a call girl? Seriously why would you like the companion to the main character in a family show to look like a whore?

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for sexy so long as it's in the context of the character. I quite like Amy's look, I love Zoe's look, adore many of Romana II's outfits, yet curiously often find Louise Jameson far sexier when they put more clothes on her (sometimes it nice to leave things to the imagination) but I don't think any of the Doctor's companions has ever dressed like a prostitute (not even Jo, and I loved her look also!)

To be fair, I'm not sure the article was entirely serious. Still, while Pearson used to be a good columnist in The Independent, but from reading through some of her other columns at the link, obviously since joining The Daily Wail, she's obviously opted to dumb down to the level of the rest of her colleagues.

And while she may not be familiar with the original series companions, if she really thinks Billy Piper and Freema Ageyman weren't sexy, she must be even more bonkers than the rest of The Wail!

The worst thing you can ever do to a good journalist is to give them a column. However thoughtful they start out, eventually they run out of sensible things to say, and end up writing about anything in the news in a way that says what their readers want to hear.

Anyone remember this old Fry & Laurie sketch? -

A Bit of Fry&Laurie: If Rupert Murdoch hadn't been born...
doesnt Hugh Lauire now take a rather large cheque from NewsCorp?, same could be said for Stephen Fry and his apperance on Bones.

Starkers which part do you hope im joking about?

No - Laurie would be paid by the production company that makes House which in turn would be paid by 20th Fox.

News Limited only ownes Fox, it doens't pay it's bills.

And Fox has been around a lot longer than News Limited.

but the FOX TV network is owned by News Corp isnt it?

One way or other Murdoch signs his cheques

according to wikipeida, FOX was founded by Rupert Murdoch

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_Broadcasting_Company

Track back further and look at 20th Century Fox Television which started in 1949.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/20th_Century_Fox_Television

Fox Broadcasting is simply that - the company that broadcasts the shows just like CBS etc. The actual production of the shows comes under 20th Century Fox Television.

Oh and News Limited vs News Corp. Limited is the compnay that Murdoch originally used to hold his investments until he founded News Corp.

News Limited is the company that holds runs Murdoch papers in Australian (hence the confusion - I generally hear News Limited mentioned but not News Corp).

from the link you posted

Twentieth Century Fox Television, Inc. (also spelled 20th Century Fox Television) is the television production division of the Fox movie studio, a subsidiary of the Fox Entertainment Group, part of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation.
Fox may have started in 1949, but its owned by News Corp now, and where do you think the production company gets the money to pay Hugh? neverland? no they get it from FOX which is owned by NewsCorp.

you know I think ive said this before, but its worth saying.

The RTDs era of the show in terms of attractive women in skimpy outfits has been poor, sure he has cast some attractive women, and we have seen those women in a few sexy outfits, but compared to the classic series, women in skimpy outfits is something the RTDs era Doctor Who lacked.

Rose in the dinner ladies outfit is a good example of this, whilst Billie Piper is an attractive woman, RTDs has no idea how to dress her in a sexual manner, what person in there right mind would put Billie Piper in a dinner ladies outfit? its a shame RTDs did not have Secret Diary of a Call Girl for refrence, when he was writing for Rose. Failing that an Anne Summers catalogue is a good place to start.

The Moffat era Doctor Who seems to point towards a revival of some elements from the Classic series, one of them being the companion dressed in something sexy.

Personally, that was something I liked about the RTD era -- the women in it dressed like real women, not sex objects dressed to satisfy male lust.

whatever profit that come House, goes back to a few people, the production company & News Corp. (not sure if NewsCorp own the production company or not)

Let us not pretend that Hugh Laurie is not a fully paid up Murdoch employee, no sketch show he did for the BBC in the early 90s, changes that. I would love to see this point put to him, im guessing its something he doesn't care to be reminded of.

^House is produced by Universal. And I'd say he probably just doesn't care, I mean would you? I can't stand Rupert Murdoch but it wouldn't stop me taking a job from Sky.

Ditto here. Hell, I'm not a massive fan of The Sun, but I'd take a job from them as well.

Billie Piper in a nurse's uniform???

Ooooohhhhhhhhh...... I must lie down...

(Yes, I am joking and having a trivial moment.)

none of us have mad a TV sketch show, in which how much we hate him featured and how bad he is for society is featured.
