Funny review of Zardoz

If you have seen all or--like me--part of this bizarre 1970's Sean Connery film, you might enjoy this review of Zardoz.

And you thought Connery's weirdest movie was Time Bandits. Or The Avengers.

People have differing opinions on many things... personally, Zardoz is on my top 10 film list. I generally watch it a few times a year (more like once a month... last time was a week ago Wednesday).

Not everyone gets everything... and I'm happy that most people don't get Zardoz. But the flip side of that is that people usually make fun of things they don't get and others won't give something a chance if they feel uncomfortable with something or see others making light of it (which is why I rarely read reviews before seeing a film).

If you don't approach this film with an open mind, then you most likely won't see what is there. The reviewer seems to lack an open mind and was looking for something to reticule... and he succeeded in his quest.

It is too bad that some people who might have gotten something out of it might not get the chance after reading such a review... but that is life.

I liked Zardoz, but I have to admit it was pretty weird!

Oh, and Shaw, how the hell can you watch ANY movie once a month for gosh sakes!

Well, it isn't like I can do that with just any movie or show... I do nearly the same with Trek TOS season one, yet watch seasons two and three more sparingly. If I was to list the movies I've watched that regularly over the last few years I'm pretty sure that Highlander, Altered States, A Beautiful Mind, Manhattan Project, People Will Talk, MindWalk and The Razor's Edge (1984) are on the current rotation.

Why those (along with Zardoz)? I don't know really... I just like them.

It is the same with books, there are a few Philip K. Dick novels (like Eye in the Sky which I've read almost once a year since the mid 1980s) that I have read dozens of times while most books I only read once.

I guess I never get tired of things I really like. :techman:

The gun is good. The penis is evil.

Zardoz: Greatest movie ever made. It must have won an Academy Award; if it didn't then there is no justice in the universe.

It's kind of hard to take something seriously when you have Sean Connery running around in a diaper, horribly cheesy 70's special effects used at random, and the catchphrase of the film is "The gun is good. The penis is evil."

Connery looked just fine to me! But then, I'm a straight married woman.

Charlotte Rampling's eyes have always been mesmerizing to me. Just...wow.

^:guffaw:I had ''NO'' Idea ''THAT'' was the catchphrase:guffaw:I'm sorry, but I only saw bits ''N'' bobs of this movie, it was just so weird that I just flipped thru channel's only coming back to it every once in awhile to see if it got any better, I'm sorry but it's just so hard to take this movie seriously with ''James Bond'' runin aroud in a Diaper!:guffaw::eek::wtf::guffaw:

Legend has it that Sean Connery in Zardoz was the visual inspiration for the character Vartox (from the Superman titles in the 1970's):

As far as I know, Vartox hasn't been seen in the Superman books in over 20 years. DC is probably too embarrassed by the character. Can you blame them?

Too funny, I guess it goes to show that Connery's "diaper" wasn't as amusing at the time as it has become. I looked up on the DC chronology website and I guess he did have a brief appearance in '99. However, he appears to have gained some modesty with the years: http://www.milehighcomics.com/cgi-bin/backissue.cgi?action=fullsize&issue=83756635410 148
