Funny Earth day predictions of the 70's

“The world has been chilling sharply for about twenty years. If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but eleven degrees colder in the year 2000. This is about twice what it would take to put us into an ice age.”
• Kenneth Watt, Ecologist

Someone get Al Gore on the phone.. :wtf:
Yep. It seems like every decade I've been alive there's been some kind of life-threatening event just about to happen. You can only cry "Wolf" so many times until people just start ignoring you.

Dr. House disagrees. ;)

Who knows what would have happened if water had continued burning.

It would've turned into water-vapor and just rained back down on the planet? (In the form of acid-rain that would eat your Plymouth Duster.)

Despite Right Wing opposition, great strides have been taken since the 70s to preserve the environment, reduce pollution, save endangered species and to stave off mass starvation. Even so, climate change is accelerating, many cities include air quality readings as a regular part of their weather reports, we're in the middle of possibly the second worst mass extinction since life began and the famines of the last couple of decades have been and still are almost beyond comprehension. Since those predictions are largely true, they aren't really amusing at all; and the situation would have been a lot worse if people hadn't responded to such "alarmist propaganda" and done something about it.
