Funny detail about Endgame.

Kobayshi Maru

Tuvok is suffering from dementia (apparently the Vulcan version of Alzheimer's) and yet they let him alone in a room with nothing but open flames and pieces of paper strewn all over the place...

As Garak says in the teaser of Our Man Bashir: "What could possibly go wrong?"

It does seem like he's more with it than human Alzheimer's .

I know people with a clearer mind than Tuvok in the scene with Janeway that are no longer trusted with fire or sharp objects. The persons in charge are not stupid, they know that people with diminished capacity must be protected from danger for their own good.

This is clearly an oversight, among many of them, I might add.

The room has fire suppression technology (TNG Up the long ladder) or in this case, selective fire suppression. He must have gotten permission for the candle but the AI in charge of monitoring the room would have been on top of any non permitted fire.

(Force fields appear surrounding open flame, and the fire runs out of air.)

Of course it's also possible that Tuvok kept his shit together for 5 minutes and turned off the fire suppression technology?

All the tactical officer needed to be cured was to get a healing meld from a compatible Vulcan, before the damage became irreversible.

So... Um?

Why didn't she bring a gorgeous Vulcan Doctor with her?

"I knew it was a one way mission"

Bullshit.

OMG.

If Janeway could have brought Selar with her to cure Tuvok. That professional would have turned the EMH unceremoniously off because he is training wheels that she does not need.

That would have been a fantastic end to his story.

"You are not real, and very annoying. Computer, uninstall program."

Actually, it would make quite a lot of sense for all patients with mental health problems with potential for self harm to be kept in a holodeck at all times (safety protocols permanently on)

whether or not he had ability to manage I think it's too risky to have anyone with fire. surely Vulcan's of "The needs of the many" would apply, so yes, I am inclined to agree. lamp needs a glowing LED installed. haha. he'll probably go ape on them.

I am starting to think that these were holograms, after all so was data's fireplace in the future (All Good Things...).

OF course it was a holo-candle. He's living in a big safety building in a safety park on the safety planet. I bet there hasn't been REAL fire on earth for a century.

Yeah, it's kind of implied to be more like Alzhiemers, rather than Dementia.

A "disease" with a cure frakked Tuvok till he was past the point were the cure was usable.

Dementia was one of the symptoms.

Dementia has a very broad set of definitions.

Some sufferers of dementia can't be trusted with a toaster. But that's not necessarily the case for everybody. As you say, the symptoms are very broad.

Be that as it may, Tuvok seems really messed up and unable to control himself.
