Funniest Moment, But Wait....

In Friday's Child, I just can't get enough of the Capellans' costumes and the sound effects of them throwing their weapons. They look like they're colorful ninjas wearing feather boas who throw weapons designed to make silly whistling noises.

They remind me of pastel colored Teletubbies.

When I was about five years old, I thought their weapons looked like jigsaw puzzle pieces (even though they don't). So I would throw puzzle pieces across the room like throwing stars while making that noise. I probably got some funny looks from my family.

I'm still trying to figure out how that red shirt got killed in the teaser by that weak looking Capellan star weapon thingy.

Yeah that red shirt in Friday's Child, Lt.Grant or as The Shat seemed to be saying Lt.Fred! I couldn't get the shat sometimes! Especially with his pronounciations of Lt.Kyle in Immunity Syndrome. Had he just decided on a whim to change John Winston's character's name from Kyle to Kowl overnight?

Eh, I think a lot of classic Trek has overblown moments like that. This was the 1960s, and the stage had more power on the small screen at the time, because most actors then were theater trained, so there was an over-emotiveness at times that borders on in-your-face and embellished today.

I didn't find the scene to contain over-emoting at all. It seemed quite muted and sensitive, as Spock, realizing what he has left behind, and taken away from Leila, makes a heartfelt and touching attempt to tenderly say goodbye. I would especially note the end of the scene as further validation of this perspective on how the situation was wonderfully handled!!!:techman:

The fish-eye view of Korob's face in Catspaw always makes me laugh. Sad that the actor who played him, Theo Marcuse, died about 6 months after filming the episode.

I wonder how few people have realized that the ponytails on all the Capellans' heads are the character's own hair. Mind you, I said character, not actor.

While not necessarily a howler, I find the double team that McCoy and Scotty ran on Tomar, first getting him to wolf down those delectable looking colored cubes, and then getting him soused on Saurian brandy and some green stuff, is pretty amusing.
