What do you mean "low-tech"? -it's the very same tech used in any other caption or photoshop thread on this board: the internet.

It does however require a little more skill to photoshop images that have this many compression artefacts visible than it does the clearer publicity shots sometimes used in such challenges.

There is already a "third thread" as you put it, with astronauts, in Misc. this is however for discussion on the STS-127 mission and will, indeed, quite possibly include grainy screencaps of astronauts.

ETA: I sense from your tone that you have a problem with some of this. Would you care to enlighten us as to the nature of that problem?
