Spoilers Fun idea that won't probably happen, or is it possible...

Unimatrix Q

... that the Watcher isn't Laris but Sisko? Or Sisko's consciousness possessing Laris...

Would make some sense, because of the way the prophets perceive time and the cryptic way DS9 hinted at Sisko's possible return.

And there's the bajoran tablet that apparently plays a role. Not to talk about the wormhole and all the bajoran elements in the new opening credits ;)

When I first saw that broken Bajoran artifact in the teaser, I initially thought something similar. But then two things happened:

1. I realized that Avery Brooks is never returning to Star Trek.

2. The artifact was broken right at the start of the first episode and was completely glossed over and ignored. Even if it was meant to be some kind of foreshadowing, it was pretty lousy.

Te Sisco angle would be a great story arc as well as the crew having some kind of encounter with the children of Kahn at this point in time.

Guinan should make an appearance seeing as they’ve hyped her presence in the new season

will the Borg Cube still sproach the earth at this time like first contact?

Yeah, would have been not a great example for foreshadowing. Just not sure if it really isn't that. Considering that the artefact was featured in the early teaser and advertising material before the release.

I'd love that, but this show seems dead set against directly acknowledging previous series other than TNG, despite having "Voyager's" breakout character as a regular, and that show's finale being crucial to this series' backstory. It's starting to frustrate me.

There are over 800 hours of Trek by now. Something is bound to be overlooked or go unmentioned. If not in this series, then in another. Moreover, for all those who are happy with the callbacks, others wish there were far fewer of them.

In any case, there remain five more episodes—you might still get your wish.

Or a red herring ...
