I wonder if he quit b/c he wanted to take the show in a direction that the higher-ups were reluctant to go & he got frustrated.

Could be, or it could be he has the chance to create his own series/pilots and try and get them picked up. I'm sure he would rather have his own series on tv that he has full control over, rather then being a minion on another series.

I mean if he doesn't need the cash of a steady gig on Heroes, then he is better suited to be out making his own stuff and trying to get them into series. That way he will have control and even more money for being the series creator and show runner.

Sorry, no. The item says Fuller left to develop shows for NBC. Even though Star Trek originally aired on NBC, its TV rights are now owned by CBS Paramount Television. So if he were working on ST, he'd be working for CBS.

Also, the general consensus I've read is that CBS/Paramount is likely to wait a couple of years before developing a new Trek series, at least until after the second Abrams movie. And Fuller has only said that he'd like to have the chance to run a Trek series. He's been letting CBS know through his public statements (and presumably private contacts as well) that if they do decide to make a new Trek TV series sometime, he'd like to be considered for the job. That doesn't mean they actually are making such a show or that he's connected to it. It's purely wishful thinking on Fuller's part at this point.

And I'd say that a contract to develop your own original shows is definitely a better offer than being on the staff of somebody else's show, particularly a show whose reputation is as tarnished as Heroes'.

As one of the higher-ups at NBC, that is not the reason why Fuller left. In fact, I pitched some excellent ideas for the upcoming season of Heroes!

One involves Hiro feeling like he needs to be a superhero and do heroic things while believing Ando should be the faithful sidekick that stays in the background. And Hiro doesn't like it when Ando gets the credit.

That's exactly how I feel. I stopped halfway through Season 3 because it had gotten so retarded. I was going to wait and see how Fuller's influence affected the show, but now I guess it's pointless to even bother with it.

First season of Heroes = Good. Very good, even. Fuller leaves and it goes down the toilet. Fuller comes back and it starts to show signs of getting better.

Not to say, of course, that Fuller was entirely resistant to the power loss crutch - he did it to Hiro, after all.

While I don't consider the show to have turned into quite the wreck many others (appear to) do, I admit to some disappointment about this news. I'll keep watching Heroes but I was kinda looking forward to seeing what Fuller might have done (ironic, really, given he was responsible for one of the most hideously bad Trek episodes in existence). And given how badly Pushing Daisies was screwed over I'm a bit surprised he'd give up a steady gig to go swimming with the network sharks again. Oh, well. To each their own.

You probably mean ST, but I'd say the best answer is Pushing Daisies, because that's the only one where he was really the guiding vision behind the whole thing. He was pushed out of DLM quite early in its run.

There is a pretty strong correlation between his presence on the show's staff and the overall quality of the show. And he did write the most acclaimed episode of the entire series, "Company Man."

I liked the 1st season well enough, but i find myself just caring less and less. Which is odd for me, as I rarely quit on a show once I'm into it. Heroes has just become boring for me, rehashing the same few plot elements that weren't exciting the first time around. And they made the characters too powerful, so half of each season (at least) is negating those powers, and the characters trying to get around that and get them back. If the characters weren't legally retarded, they're realize that they could solve the problems inside of a 30 minute episode, instead of dragging it out for 22 hours...
