From your gut...

John's an erratic motherfucker, but he wouldn't start an intergalactic war. The writers would make sure that he'd only go as far as to piss off a relatively inconsequential race (eg. the Kreetassans).

That was totally Porthos' fault! And by endgame they were eating out of his oiled up hands.

Remember this gem?

"So, you're the commander of Deep Space 9. And the Emissary to the Prophets, decorated combat officer, widower, father, mentor and... oh yes! The man who started the war with the Dominion." (Senator Vreenak).

Sometimes you're just pushed into a corner and you have to give the finger to Asimov.

Maybe Sisko as The Emissary/a Prophet/The 11th Doctor started the Earth-Romulan War.

For shits and giggles.

I don't know who John is, so I can't vote. If you meant Archer, then my answers would be no and yes.

The Ericsons in Daedalus called Jonathan "John" constantly. Then again in Fusion when he was younger, he went by Johnny. Archer congegates his Christian name every decade or so.

In a way he did. He was directly responsible for recovering the Kir'shara and indefinately delaying their reunification with the Vulcans. He stuck his nose into Romulan attempts to destablise Andorian/Tellarite co-operation and brought those arguing races together. Depends what side of that future Neutral Zone you're on... ;)

something the romulans and especially valdore were aware of.
This isn't a failure. It's a setback. We have to deal with the humans. They are the ones that brought the Andorians and Tellarites together
