Spoilers From Thor Ragnarok

Mrs. Silvercrest

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
To Me The movie Thor Ragnarok is like 3 different movies. One it is about Ragnarok and the end of Asgard. It is very dark and sad. Two It is about the Hulk and his journey. And Three it is about Thor and Loki how they are as brothers. I don't mind the funny parts with Thor and Hulk and so on. But I think the fall of Asgard should have well been a bit more what (a downer?)
It has bugged me how the really amazing Warriors 3 who were Thor's buddies in arms and such, die such worthless bummer deaths. And where was Sif? Is she still alive or what??

I can't remember for sure, but I think someone did say that Sif is alive.

If you consider Agents of SHIELD to be MCU canon (I do for the first five seasons, but with the current season your mileage may vary) then Sif was often sent off-planet by "Odin" (actually Loki).

Yeah I wondered about that and also the woman she caught on Earth the one who could make men do what she wanted. I wonder what happened to her as well. Maybe Sif with show up again?

Lorelei the sister of the Enchantress who we haven't seen in an MCU form yet. I hope they got her out of jail but even then it's 50/50 Thanos's goons got her, but I didn't see Endgame yet.

The thing about Ragnorok, I thought Surtur was going to destroy the Nine Realms and kill Yggdrasil, not just destroy Asgard and go have a beer. But hey, I guess old Norse tales are open to interpretation. Walt Simonson had an excellent run that included Ragnorok almost happening and the prototype for the first Avengers movie with Surtur's demons invading New York city but they were fought off by the combination of the US Army and the Einherjar and afterwards some of the soldiers thank them by donating to them quite a bit of M-16s. This is where the scene of Skurge the Executioner's last stand came from because later Thor and several others, including his long time foe Skurge, recently abandoned by the Enchantress, went with Thor to Hel to rescue souls sent there by Malekith the Accursed as part of the scheme to get Ragnorok moving. Skurge was feeling useless and volunteered to hold the bridge while the others escaped with the rescued souls and they gave him several rifles to aid him, his axe recently destroyed in Hel. This was also the same adventure that Thor was horribly scarred by Hela's hand of glory which caused Thor to grow a beard for the first time.

I thought the ending conveyed the drama of the destruction of Asgard well enough, especially with the end credits scene and knowing that the survivors of Asgard aren't quite through with pain and suffering yet.

I think it's one of the things that makes Thor Ragnarok such a remarkable movie. To take the traditional idea of an apocalypse, the end times for a world and turn it on its head. Its the ultimate flipping of the script. Rather than gloom or doom, this is a joyful, celebratory cataclysm. This is a doomsday that wins the day. Who would ever think to take this idea and make it fun, uplifting party? Well, good for the film makers for thinking outside the box. I'm actually tired of all the old myths and legends and gods having this gloomy end-point in mind for us, and I like to imagine Thor Ragnarok as a challenge to that paradigm, "Come up with something better. Here: we 'simple' humans can imagine it something better; who out there in the universe can top this for a positive, constructive, life-affirming outcome?"

I'm glad it's not a downer movie. There are other, later movies that can explore the aftereffects of what was lost, once Thor's civilization is saved.
