From CNN.com: Space Station's sole toilet is broken...

Note to self: when constructing super killer spaceship to take over the world, add more than one toilet.

It would suck if an astronaut spaced some of his poo at a speed sufficient enough to escape the solar system...where it would then fall into a wormhole, be found near a machine planet, and be sent back to its Creator. I wouldn't want to merge with that.

I'm sure they'll pull over at the next gas station...

I thought NASA had purchased a russian toilet to be installed in Destiny or some other module, and that it was essentially a duplicate of the one on the russian side of the station?

Greetings from KSC!

Replacement parts are going to be sent up on Saturday's STS-124 mission.

Until then they'll have to roll down a window.

Would dumping stuff out the window change their orbit?

No  but they'd have to keep track of its orbit, because travelling at approximately 25km/s it is dangerous space debris, capable of wrecking any satellite it collides into.

What a job for some NASA guy. "I keep track of the rogue space turds!"

Well, that is one more toilet than the Enterprise has. :D

And yes, this truly does suck the big one. Anyone got some empty food rations bags?

They have email up there don't they? via NASA. Do you think as a group we could get one up to them? After all, we are the TrekBBS, not just any old forum. :p we are a space-worthy group ourselves, and NASA might actually welcome something to lift their spirits.

So moderators, listen up!

Can we send them "condolences from the TrekBBS".
Thinking of you through these difficult times, etc etc

Can anyone think of some sympathetic words laced with toilet humour?

In my job I often get plumbers to go out to fix various things (on Earth)

Quote:

"So NASA may order an in-orbit plumbing service call when space shuttle Discovery visits next week."

I ve seen how much they charge, I can barley imagine the traveling expenses for this!
