Fringe tie-in novels coming

Christa Faust is writing 3 Fringe prequel novels.

I’ve been hired to write three prequels, each centered around one of the three main characters. The first, called THE ZODIAC PARADOX, features Walter, the scientist, along with William Bell and Nina Sharp in 1974. The second THE BURNING MAN, features Olivia, the FBI agent, as a teenager in 1995. (This is the book I’m working on right now.) The third and still untitled book will feature Peter, the scientist’s son, during his shady, gray-market dealings in 2008, just before the start of the first season.

According to the author the novels will be considered canon:

I have been working closely with Bad Robot every step of the way, since these are officially sanctioned tie-ins and, once published, will be considered canon. Of course, there's always room for nit-picking no matter how careful we are, but I did my best to stay true to the spirit of the show and I hope fans will enjoy reading the books as much as I have enjoyed writing them.

Also FYI, because these books are set before the start of the first season, they are based on the original timeline and not the later, altered timeline.

I've been waiting for some tie in novels since the show began so this is exciting.

Very cool. Of the three the Walter/Bell/Nina book is the one I'm most interested in based purely on the character focus. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for these. With this and Leverage getting tie ins, the only series left that I would be interested in novels for are NCSI and White Collar. I'm especially hopeful about WC since pretty much every other USA show has gotten tie-in novels.

I hope these sell well and they can do some novels set during the series. Fringe was too serialized for the books to go into a lot of areas but with the show over now they can.

Yes. She used to be a rather prolific horror writer, alongsize Poppy Z. Brite, before she got into the tie-in line. The most recent of her works I've read was the Snakes on a Plane novelization, which stayed true to the spirit of the movie but was far more entertaining.

I wouldn't hesitate, if you're already a fan of Fringe. She'll do just fine.

Of course, we don't know the state of the universe after the finale. Who knows? Everyone will die and the universe implodes.

I actually originally added a comment to this effect, but deleted it because I refuse to believe that most of the main characters won't exist after the finale. Timelines may get reset and we may find them back in 2013 (I hope) but if the universe just ends I'll be extremely disappointed!

This is something I could have got into, if it was published several years ago (circa 2009). Dunno about today or in several months after the tv series is already over.

(I didn't really watch Fringe at all, until this past summer).

In the past, I use to like reading novelizations and/or spinoff novels of various media franchises, before watching the actual movie or tv show. I read the novelizations of the Star Trek movies, Star Wars prequels, Battlestar Galactica (both the 1978 original and 2004 revived versions), etc ... before watching them. (Reading the novels after watching the show/movie, isn't quite as exciting to me).


For the same price as buying several Fringe paperback novels + graphic novels, books, etc ..., I could have picked up the dvd sets of the first four seasons of Fringe, for the same amount of cash or less.
