The secretary has to be Walternate coming to get his son.

Re: Fringe: "The Man from the Other Side" 4/22/10 - Grading & Discussi

I can't see the Secretary being Bell or Alt-Walt because the hand they showed was very young and smooth looking, not an old man's hand. It almost looked feminine.

It would be an interesting twist if Peter's real mother was the mastermind behind it all, but they did say Mr. Secretary, so Walternate is the only candidate with any punch. No one would care if it turned out to be Scar Charlie and since Torv and Valley are getting a divorce it sure as hell won't be Alternate John Scott. :p

Re: Fringe: "The Man from the Other Side" 4/22/10 - Grading & Discussi

If it's not Walternate, it's someone with Walter's nose. We saw it clearly through the mask. It was an old guy with a nose shaped just like Walter's.

I guess the characters have to adhere to the speed of plot, but Walter is good at jumping to wild conclusions, so he should've figured out Walternate is the leader of the other side when the shapeshifter apologized to him, especially since Walter went to the other side and stole Peter.

Re: Fringe: "The Man from the Other Side" 4/22/10 - Grading & Discussi

What makes you think he's the leader? "Mr. Secretary" doesn't really imply "leader."

Re: Fringe: "The Man from the Other Side" 4/22/10 - Grading & Discussi

So we had references to both 4/20 and Secretary's Day 4/21 in this episode. Very timely.:)

Walter already figured that out at the end of last season, when he discovered the terrorist manifesto was written on 'his' typewriter. I thought, however, that there was a clear moment of discomfort or guilt when the shapeshifter apologized--as though he was worried what conclusions the others might draw from that.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Re: Fringe: "The Man from the Other Side" 4/22/10 - Grading & Discussi

No, Walter assumed he wrote it on his typewriter... but that he simply couldn't remember doing so. That was touched upon even more during the episode where he was given back his memory only to have it stolen again.

A very good episode... The shapeshifter stillborn was some great creepy stuff! :)

Aside from Hitler's birthday, what's the significance of 4/20?

Re: Fringe: "The Man from the Other Side" 4/22/10 - Grading & Discussi

Some people celebrate 4/20 at 4:20 by smoking pot.

Re: Fringe: "The Man from the Other Side" 4/22/10 - Grading & Discussi

I think I noticed something in this episode that I never caught before and I will need to check my recording later. Olivia's license plate was 1R2D21 and Broyle's was 1C3PO1. Anyone else see this?

Another thing I noticed aside from the license plates is that we were given a glimpse into the other universe when they pick up that interference. If you slow the screen you get a glimpse of a newscast announcing a glass dome placed on the White House, what looks to be Greg Gruenberg dressed as a pilot with a pregnant blonde woman (Lost reference?) and a U.S. flag with forty eight stars on it. Anyone have a screen capture of this?

I just freeze framed it, and that was definitely Claire from Lost...

Yeah, it was a cut scene from the Lost pilot... the alternate universe obviously got the longer version of the pilot.

Damn, this thread really needs pictures....

Re: Fringe: "The Man from the Other Side" 4/22/10 - Grading & Discussi

Walter shouldn't have burned the letter. He could have used it for notes. The will he, won't he game deprived the scene of some impact. It was obvious he'd shilly shally til somehow Peter found out on his own. Which Peter did, because it was in the script.

Having one man come through was anticlimactic. If there's been just one make it through and the rest were left behind, it would have been much more interesting.

Strictly speaking, Peter should be out of the series, indefinitely. But I'm quite sure they'll fart around to eventually bring him back. The time wasted reestablishing the status quo could have been used in actually moving forward. Yes, it was nicely melodramatic when Peter improbably deduces that only a man from the other side could survive the mystery wave. But in the long run, Peter's choosing his loyalty is far more interesting than a single bout of histrionics. Considering the permanent, unrepaired weakness in the show, namely, why is Peter hanging around if he's not into rebuilding a relationship with his father?

Average.
