I almost gave up on this series last season during the first half of the series because it was a pale imitation of The X-Files. The second half picked up thanks to the shift away from tired and uninventive monsters/freaks of the week that were nothing fresh to a more interesting mythology.
Now we seem to be be back for the last three out of five weeks to that wellworn episodic focus with only a minimal touching back on the more interesing arc.
This just brings home the fact that these days tv shows really need interesting arcs/mythology to help them carve out their own unique identity and prevent them from heading back to the old episodic standbys which for those that have seen Trek, The X-Files, Twilight Zone just really can't hold one's attention anymore. These characters aren't particularly compelling so all the show really has going for it is the mythology and it should really play to its strengths.
I also really find the mysteries initially intriguing but the revelation of what they really are rather ho-hum and underwhelming. It also doesn't help that a lot of times the show has a bad habit of showing its cards in the teaser already letting us in on what is going on rather than keeping us in the dark. Granted the show is sci-fi, I find that the sci-fi even for a show of this type to come across as mumbo-jumbo and fails to really spark the imagination or use it in an interesting fashion.
The other problem with this episode is I'm not interested in Sam Weiss right now, Charlie's death had zero effect on me given how quickly he was dispatched and how much of a minor player he was in season one so Olivia's loss fell really flat.
I just hate getting caught up in an interesting episode like last week then instead of picking up from there they squander the momentum with episodes like these. Shows like Lost or Heroes S1 had it right to actually be a heavily serialized series. I always hated on DS9 when they took detours away from the Dominion War like with "Sons and Daughters" or "Extreme Measures" or a large part of season six. If you are going to be serialized go all in.

As someone who lives in seattle, the exterior shots and locations were totally unbelievable. Theres no cab company remotely like that in Seattle, nor no Washington State Hospital (or whatever it was called). How hard is it to at least use names of real locations?

Olivia's first flash into the alternate universe showed a Charlie who had a scar on his face.
Not to mention their old stock footage --- Where was WaMu Center?
And then of course it was Vancouver towards the end... Yeah, there are giant cruise ships in Lake Union with big high-rises along the coast. Mmmhmm.. :P
I was recently watching an old episode of Mannix. They made a big deal out of saying that Mannix had to fly from LA to Washington, DC on this case. While he was travelling around the streets of "DC," they made no effort whatsoever to keep from showing the palm trees all over the place.
So it ain't nothin' new!
What got me was the big old bridge they were flying towards, which doesnt exist here in Seattle. xD. Now there ARE big cruise ships out on the water, but no, no high rises along the coast. Not in West Seattle anyway, and not downtown.
Ah ok. Id kinda like to see him join our bunch.. Havnt seen a good Alt U version of someone we previously knew be a main character since Hercules TLJ, and it wasnt done particularly well there.
^ But at the end, they said it happened in Lake Union. There might be big cruise ships out in Elliott Bay, but there definitely aren't any in Lake Union.
At least they don't insult your intelligence like Smallville does. How did Smallville depict Detroit despite one of Vancouver B.C.'s sports arenas clearly in the background? Black kids playing basketball!
OK, I just looked closely at the poster on the wall when young Peter was having a nightmare. The poster was about the Challenger shuttle, it was referring to its 11th mission on June 28 1984. However, in our universe, there was no Challenger mission on that date, and when it was destroyed in 1986 it was on its 10th mission. So that means we are seeing Peter in the alternate universe when he was being taken by our Walter.

Yeah. I can see why you're getting worked up about that. Clearly the show is taking place in -our- universe! That's the only logical conclusion I can come up with. Yessir. No way it's one very similar but notably different from our own. No way in Hell, man.

As for Seattle not passing for Seattle... Guess what. It happens all the time for TV shows. Shooting on location is too expensive, so they throw together some shots to that are convincing enough for non-residents.
As for the cab company not existing...
Geez, does every company shown on TV need to exist in reality? Talk about lawsuit potential.
