After the preview, I'm guessing that next week we find out what Belly "did to Olivia."

I hope we find out what it is that Walter needs Bell's hand for 24 years from now.

Now there's a thought... If that's the future to come, then we know that Aspirin will survive being shot.

Re: Fringe 4x21 - "Brave New World, Part 1" (Live Commentary, Spoiler

Yeah, Asteroid has to live to be frozen in carbonate in 2015. Likewise, Olivia has to live long enough to give birth to Henrietta.

And I'm still wonder how the guy from inside Olivia's head in 3X19 figures into things since he's destined to kill her.

And... Oh, questions, questions, questions.

Re: Fringe 4x21 - "Brave New World, Part 1" (Live Commentary, Spoiler

BTW, I gave this one an 'Excellent' for a number of reasons, but most of all because it felt like old-school Fringe again, despite the fact we're still in an altered timeline of 'our' universe. I will say this though, about the revised timeline; it does allow them to explore various avenues not taken earlier in the show's run. While that is cool from a story-telling POV, I do however, still miss the original version of things.

Yeah that's one of the prospects of next season dealing largely with 2036... Does this mean that Torv's involvement with the show will be less? Or will we have Lost-esque flashbacks to when she was alive?

I'm outta here for now. Looking forward to reading the overnight posts tomorrow morning over coffee.

Will have to see the whole episode on my DVR when I'm back home.

It's probably like Alt Universe/Normal Universe episode swapping now.

Average--like I've come to expect fairly intriguing set-up but the writers never seem to provide a satisfying conclusion so I expect to be disappointed.

I suspect that the increased use of her abilities is tied to Olivia's death because it takes a physical toll on her brain and perhaps Etta is so obsessed with finding Fringe team because Olivia used her telekinesis to stop the bullet from killing Etta or Peter and it kills her.

Jones' death was abrupt and I hate that he turns out to be just a pawn in Bells and by extension the writers larger story--Disappointing.

Re: Fringe 4x21 - "Brave New World, Part 1" (Live Commentary, Spoiler

What an episode this was!

First of all: I LOVED the reference to 1.19 'The Road Not Taken' with the case of spontaneous human combustion. A great reference to a great episode.

Secondly: The character moments between Peter and Olivia in this were great and I really liked how talking to Jessica raised questions for Olivia about raising a family with her lifestyle.

Thirdly: BELL IS BACK! :bolian: It's definitely a plus to see Nimoy return to the Fringe world, even if it's a bit of a Mr.Hyde version of Bell.

Fourth: Walter. That character is priceless. There were so many wonderful Walter moments in this episode, and I loved the Easy Back Oven with the regenerating lemon cake. Of course, only Walter would add pig brains to it. :rommie:

Finally: The ending. WOW. I loved that Astrid broke out into some karate skills there and was defending Walter. Go Astrid!

My reaction to her being shot, however ->:eek::eek: I really hope Astro makes it through! People have already mentioned that because of the future timeline we saw, Astrid has to survive, but this is Fringe we're talking about here. We saw a future timeline at the end of season 3 and it did not come to pass, so who's to say that the one we say in 'Letters of Transit' will?

In addition to Astrid's kung-fu skills, Olivia revealed some new skills of her own. That was some wild teleskinesis she was wielding there. She actually took control of Peter's body and kicked Jones's ass! That's another thing, the twist with Jones being the Bishop was great; I thought it was Peter for sure!

I rated this episode excellent for the above reasons as well in addition to the concept of using the Sun to literally try and set Boston aflame, as well as the sneaky use of the 'X' on the nanites (I loved the use of nanotech in this! :D) that Mr. X had on his shirt in "Lysergic Acid Diethylamide'.

So now the question is: If these nanites were desgined by Bell, and Mr.X was someone from Bell's mind, could this Mr.X be Bell himself? From next week's promo, someone close to Peter is clearly shot, which means that it is either Walter or Olivia. Walter has survived a gunshot before and I believe Olivia has as well. But will they survive this time?

Re: Fringe 4x21 - "Brave New World, Part 1" (Live Commentary, Spoiler

That was a good episode although it is a two-parter. I liked how the English woman from Lost wasn't as so annoying in Fringe. I could definitely see the links that would lead to Henrietta from the future episode. Leonard Nimoy did twist William Bell to a darker edge. I think the only surprise that shocked me was the 'death' of Astrid. Why a junior FBI agent runs around without a gun is somewhat beyond me.

While our opinions on the show often differ a bit, I really have to agree with you here. While I had no problem in learning that Bell really was the 'Big Bad', and that DRJ was working for him, it was a disappointing end to a really fascinating and fun character to watch. So you and I are on the same page in that regard.

I probably enjoyed the ep more than you did, but again, we're only at the half-way point in the story, which as you pointed out, was mostly set-up; I could end up being greatly disappointed by the ending next week.

Re: Fringe 4x21 - "Brave New World, Part 1" (Live Commentary, Spoiler

Didn't Nimoy specifically say that he'd retire from acting to concentrate on more personal projects?

Re: Fringe 4x21 - "Brave New World, Part 1" (Live Commentary, Spoiler

Yes, but then he did Shatner's Priceline commercials. And retired again. And did Star Trek and Fringe and a music video. And retired again. And did Big Bang Theory. And Fringe. And according to rumors, Star Trek again.

I think Nimoy doesn't have to work anymore, so he won't unless the offer is pretty gratifying.

And good for him.

Re: Fringe 4x21 - "Brave New World, Part 1" (Live Commentary, Spoiler

His age is really getting to him. He looks like a dark lord of the Sith these days.

Re: Fringe 4x21 - "Brave New World, Part 1" (Live Commentary, Spoiler

Compared to the mummified look in JJTrek he looked actually rather great for his age.

I have to agree, Old Spock looked like hell in ST09, but this version of Belly didn't look any worse than Walter, really. Nimoy must be doing something right, or they have really, really good make-up artists working on Fringe.

He needed Belly's hand for a job. ;)

Just saw it and I thought it was excellent. I missed Nimoy's name in the credits so it was a complete surprise to me. Always nice to be surprised...I suspect that really was him appearing two episodes as well. Good to have him back. Poor guy looks old and sounds out of breath though.

Poor Astrid. I really hope she's pulls through. The finale next week looks very exciting.

Seriously, how hasn't John Noble not been nominated and/or won an Emmy?

Re: Fringe 4x21 - "Brave New World, Part 1" (Live Commentary, Spoiler

NOOOOOO! Not Astrid! :(

Re: Fringe 4x21 - "Brave New World, Part 1" (Live Commentary, Spoiler

From what I've heard Nimoy is appearing in the new Star Trek movie, so time will tell how old Spock plays into the new plot there.

Bell did look much younger in this episode than he did in previous appearances IMO, he also seemed to have a little more hair.

Jones is gone, yes, but it seems like the appropriate end for that kind of character. He is a villian, but not the master villian in all of this. We found at the end that he was really a pawn of Bell's. And as we saw with Jones before in season 1 and Newton in seasons 2 and 3, these kinds of villians never stick around permenantly.
