Yeah, when we first met Nick in season 2, he was able to control people, make them kill themselves. Just by being around them. His emotional state was "Contagious". So by considering suicide, his sister killed herself instead.

Someone a week or so ago pointed out that Fringe could very easily fit into the Trek universe.
