Friendships

The best friendship is Archer-Shran. Started from suspicion, and hate maybe, and became one hell of a friendship at the end of the series..andorian ale, you owe me.. keeping on saving each other.. something that developed wonderful in time.
Who is from STL, we have a best trek friendship thread on the general board.obviously wins kirk-spock-mccoy

As far as Trip and Archer, I love their friendship and it is just a shame that they didn't put more of it in via stories. We hear about how they went thru boot camp together (or something similar) and that deleted scene in Shuttlepod One would have been so good.
Ah, the deleted scene from Shuttlepod One. If only we would have had more scenes like that. I think that particular scene gave the Archer-Trip friendship much more depth than the usual 'Let's watch water polo together' scenes. His 'Big Mister Starfleet' speech gave his admiration of Archer a nice little edge.

I also like the scene in Vox Sola where Archer is able to calm Trip who is freaking out after finding out their minds are linked.

First of all, ReedEnterprise, I've already congratulated you on your avatar on STL, but I figure it won't hurt if I do it again. I still love it! In fact, I used it as inspiration for my entry in one of the av contests.:p

I'm not a big fan of "Two Days Two Nights" either, except for that Phlox/Cutler/T'Pol scene, which was indeed hilarious. I cringed all the way through Trip and Malcolm's "adventures". That was... not very flattering for them.

There were friendships all over, I like the one with Phlox and Cutler, I would have loved to see that one mature though I understand they couldn't because she died in real life during filming.
She died?:sigh: I had no idea! I really liked her, that's such a shame! I would have definitely loved seeing more of Crewman Cutler.

Thank you thank you Alienesse :) I was looking around one day and saw it :)

And sadly yes, she did. She was young, and I believe it was during season 2. I am glad that they didn't recast though, I don't think it would have worked even though she wasn't a main character.

You are bias Boco :rommie:
No I get why you like it, Archer aside. They did have a general love for each other and they saw the positive side of each other despite being prejudiced by their first meeting. It was a good one and one that I enjoyed watching grow.

I will go check that out later :) Is it under TOS or General?

Vox Sola has actually become one of the episodes I enjoy watching.

This is a great thread; I'm going to bump it. Friendships were such a strong theme in Enterprise. As the first crew going into space for such a long period of time the friendship relationships were key for how they spent their "off-duty" time. I loved the Trip & Archer scenes of watching water polo matches or just having a drink together. Those two were buddies with Archer taking the lead and Trip following.

With Trip and Malcolm, I thought Trip took the lead (engaging Malcolm in the Deadstop adventure, engaging the "ladies" in conversation in TDTN). Future Tense was a GREAT Trip/Mal episode. Remember when Trip got Malcolm going saying he (Trip) was going to write-up Mal for not following an order? Trip told Mal he was "too easy" (a target) for teasing. That was a fun scene. (It's the one where they had to fix the leak on the hull when Degra was on board.)

They really missed the boat on developing Travis' character through friendships. He and Hoshi obviously got along well. She said that he was a practical joker (also in Deadstop), but they never used that again. He was great with Trip in the "sweet spot" scene, the campout part in Strange New World, and later when Trip gave him the pics to show his family.

Anthony was a martial arts expert, so they could have had Travis and Malcolm working out together and sparring more. (The scene with them working out when the Orion women were on board was funny.) Travis and Malcolm were great together in
Breaking the Ice (the snowman). He and Archer had a real mentor relationship going and I would have loved a breakfast scene with them sharing stories of their space adventures. (The Horizon scene with Archer and Travis in the "sweet spot" was beautiful.)

There was so much potential there. I would have loved a poker game homage to TNG. They could have all been there as they taught the game to Phlox or Shran! If only they had gotten seven years...

My favourite friendship is the one between Trip and Reed.

My favourite Trip & Reed episodes are: Silent Enemy, Shuttlepod One, Dead Stop and United.

^This. I couldn't agree more. Trip & Reed's friendship is definitely my favorite too. I love how you really only ever see Reed lighten up when he's around Trip. Starfleet or not, it's entertaining to watch two grown men act like excited little boys when they get around each other. lol.

That said, I like T'Pol and Trip's friendship/relationship as well. I have way too much fun watching Trip's expressions and reactions to T'Pol, and my is it great to watch them get all steamy and naked. lol.

Let's not forget Archer and Porthos! :D

You know what bugs me most about this? She vanished off the show and her passing was never acknowledged. They could have shortened an episode and done a tribute montage of Cutler scenes and put up "In Memory of Kellie Waymire."

I don't like montages within an ep but I would have been totally happy with this happening after the ep finished, would have been nice.

I've just been rewatching S1 (only seen ENT through once, so interesting reminder) and wondered whether Waymire's passing was marked. She had a lot of potential. And is Porthos a puppy or a small breed? On friendship front, I recall Phlox and Hoshi had a good chemistry.

Porthos was a beagle - probably a 13" beagle (Westminster Kennel Club also recognizes 15" beagles but I think the dog is of the former variety).

As for Waymire, I think they obliquely referred to her with all of the "lost crew members" but I do think there should've been something more. She wasn't just a walk-on.

Thanks, jespah :bolian: Just started S2 and think it's first time they've mentioned onscreen (ANIS) he's a beagle. Unless I missed a ref. Not too au fait with canines.

My pleasure! Visit the local dog park and ask, or watch the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show (every February). :)

I can now identify a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever from 100 paces. ;)

PS I just love dogs, so it was just amazing when I saw Porthos for the first time (as I am sure we all know, TNG had had Spot the cat, and I had wanted equal time). It enhanced the overall awesomeness that is Broken Bow.
