Freudian Slips

I had one like MetalPants.

I invited a pretty girl round for dinner one time. I was going to say, "This is a nice wine," but instead it came out as a sigh, and "Boobs." I was terminally embarrassed, she laughed uproariously, and the evening continued.

And yes, my goodness, she had some figure.

Reminds me of the old joke with the punchline, "Do you take cream and sugar with your nose?"

Actually, something like that happened when my mother introduced a friend of hers to a man whose last name was Glascock. She made a point of telling her friend that the guy didn't like people making jokes about his name. When they met, she said, "I'm so pleased to meet you, Mr. Goldcock!"

^^ She should have just called him Dwayne.

That reminds me of an old Kliban cartoon with the caption, "I'm sorry, I thought I was undressing you with my eyes."

An excellent clanger from one of the speakers at an awards do I was at last night:

"... and I hope after the final presentation you all enjoy the buffet suffer..."

Quickly self-corrected to "supper", though anyone who's faced the perils of mass catering will understand the meaning behind the slip. Personally, I escaped with friends to dinner reservations elsewhere!

I don't know about in the U.S., but here in the U.K., schoolchildren address female teachers as "miss", regardless of marital status. Embarrassingly often (around three or four times in secondary school, I called female teachers "mum", instead of "miss".

Well, from what I hear on Doctor Who, it seems like in the UK the word "Ma'am" is pronounced like "Mum" anyway.

The silky Freudian slips are the most comfortable; particularly in the Summer.
