I agree. If they would have written her character alittle better she may have lasted longer. For starters why does every female companion have to fall in love with the Doctor? In the old days the female companions just wanted to travel, the only hint at any possible relationship was with Sarah Jane Smith and Tom Baker's Doctor.

Yeah, always comes across as a lovely girl, both in looks and attitude, but both Billie and Catherine were better actresses and, more importantly, had better screen presense. Essentially when you're paired with someone like Tennant

Was she really that bad though? I love Rose, but Martha actually did stuff other then just pine after GQ Nerdboy. She did that alot, true, but Martha had brains and skills that actually proved useful.

My only problem with her is that she only had 3 facial expressions: "Hi There" "Sexy Hi There", and "Someone just shit in my cornflakes!".

Yeah, she was saddled with being the "rebound" companion.

I thought the Doc didn't seem to regard her as highly as you'd think for someone who spent months alone as a scullery girl in racist England and a year rallying the entire world to help him out.

Ten's companions sure have gone through a lot. Jack had immortality forced on him, Rose stuck in a parallel world (though with her own Doctor plaything), Donna living another life with her own family and children only to lose them and living through a parallel world without the Doctor... ouch.

Obviously he's realized with that with his "never again" companion policy.
