Free photo software from Google!

Whoa. Google just announced that it’s making its Nik Collection of desktop photo editing software 100% free.

You may remember that Google acquired Nik Software and its popular Snapseed photo editing app back in September 2012. Although Google killed off Snapseed for Desktop in March 2013, it was still big news when Google started selling the entire Nik suite (originally valued at around $500) for the “low price” of $150 later that month.

Now it’s free.

Looks like it's just a set of plug-ins for other software, mostly Photoshop. So unless I'm wrong, it couldn't replace GIMP.

Yep, this download is literally useless if you don't have Photoshop. Requirements:

• Adobe Photoshop CS4 through CC 2015
• Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 through 13 (apart from HDR Efex Pro 2, which is not compatible with Photoshop Elements)
• Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 through 6/CC

I saw that after I downloaded it. Off to Recycle Bin you go! Oh well.
