Free Comic Book Day

I went to pick up the new Star Trek comic and got some freebies for for my daughter.

Took my kids and picked up a bunch of free comics, plus the new Justice League and Avengers Assemble.
There were a lot of people in costumes: Boba Fett, Tie Fighter Pilot, Jawa, Some military guys from Halo or Doom or something. Whoever the military guys were they kind of acted like jerks to some of the kids that were there.
I haven't had time to look at the free comics yet. Mostly ones for my kids.

The stores in my area treat it more like a "celebrate comics" day. The main one I go to was pretty busy, which was cool to see. They had a guy outside dressed as a stormtrooper, taking photos with people, and the owner was dressed like Mary Marvel.

The whole thing was kind of cool and fun. I just used it as an excuse to buy some Hellboy stuff.

I have generally enjoyed Marvel's efforts for FCBD over the years. They've usually supplied all-new done-in-one stories.

There was a fun X-Men story focusing on Pixie as she discovers a N'Gari nest in her home town and calls in the main team. There was a solid Avengers story by Brian Michael Bendis pitting New and Dark Avengers against Ymir, the Asgardian Frost Giant. There was an Iron Man/Thor team up by Fraction and Romita JR that was a little light on story but pretty to look at. Last year had a fun build-up to Spider-Island with Spidey and Shang-Chi.

This year though? Marvel provides a reprint of something that I've already paid for and an incomplete Spider-Man story. Very disappointing.

The only things that really interested me this year were Dark Horse's Serenity/Star Wars and Buffy (vs Alien )/Guild flip-books. And as they were all half-issue sized stories, they were a little disappointing.

Trekker was right, the Serenity comic was a little on the lame side. I could have put up with the non-story if the artwork was a little better, but it was horrendous.

As for the Avengers comic that was put out...so that's a reprint of an older issue? That's a shame cause it seemed like a story I would have liked to have gotten into, but I'm assuming they're far into it by now.

I think that's mostly the point, any time I've ever been the stores either had people dressed up, or artists drawing or signing and so on.

I only just started buying my niece some comics as she's hit the reading skills to enjoy them and she was fascinated that there was a store just for comic books and maybe, just maybe, a future customer was found.

Took a few shots at FCBD but I mainly focused on bargain hunting. My LCS had 100 long boxes full of books mostly from the last 20yrs but some as recent as 8 months ago.

This guy was set up to promote his Whedon fan club. Stick a '.com' to the end to find his website, also his facebook page.

I spent $100.

For every $10 spent you got a free HC book, by the time I cheched out Dark Tower was all that was left. So I got 9, I'll try Ebay, make some money back perhaps. In the center is a short box. I laid nu52 books Grifter and Captain Atom as examples of some recent books I got for the 50 cents. I got an entire run of Dr.Strange issue #1-90. Right side of pic is my stack of Freebie Books.

Online retailer tie ins I heard of are:
talesofwonder.com is having an omnibus sale 50% off and other assorted titles thru 5/9/12
things from another world, tfaw.com is having some selected omnibus titles as much as 70% off. Example Evolutionary War, I got that one.
