Frasier question

There's something I've been wondering for quite awhile ever since I had started watching it. Is Christopher Lloyd the exec producer/writer the same as the actor? And if so, I wonder why he never appeared on the show?

According to Wikipedia, not the same guy at all

I checked cos I've often wondered myself!! Would have been cool if it had been the actor!

I have to admit after seeing the name in the credits of Modern Family I was curious about it as well but I never bothered to look it up until now.

I used to think this when I first started watching Frasier when I was 14. I realised when I was older though. :D

We should turn this into a quotes thread, I think we haven't had one for a while.

Chess Pains
Martin: . . . and when I trapped your horse in the right corner.
Frasier: Let's call it a night, shall we?
Martin: Okay, when I trapped your knight in the corner.
Frasier: No, let's call it a night dad.

I noticed back in the '80s while watching "Golden Girls" that one of the credited writers was named "Christopher Lloyd". I always assumed that it was the actor until "Frasier" one its first Best Comedy Emmy and I didn't see the actor on stage (Christopher Lloyd was credited as Executive Producer by then). It then dawned on me that it had to be another person working in Hollywood with the same name. It didn't help that the critic Leonard Maltin also made the same mistake in one of his books, saying that the actor was the same man as the Frasier producer! I'm still in disbelief how someone in Maltin's position could make that mistake.

If it had been actor Christopher Lloyd, it would have had a nice symmetry as Frasier was shot on the same sound stage as Taxi.

christopher all so did a guess appearence on cheers for a two parter. when diane was there.

A quick check of IMDb seems to suggest they are two different guys.

Yeah, even with IMDB though, there are certain cases where certain careers will be split under different profiles, which is what made me wonder. It's rare, but it happens.

I would have loved if he had showed up as another Pyschiatrist with a more successful radio show than him in another city.

winkipedia say's it's him but you have type in christopher lloyd (screenwriter).

Hah, thanks for the answers. It really is quite interesting. He maybe should have used a middle name to distinguish him from the actor ;)

It's interesting that they both have the same name, you'd think there'd be a conflict between the SAG and the WGA/DGA that'd say you can't have both an actor and a producer working at the same time with the same name and that one of them would have to make some change (even if its just the addition of a middle initial) to separate the two.

This confused me for a long time too (Christopher Llyod produced quite a few popular sitcoms in the 90s, infact) until I learned that they were two different men.

Yeah, they certainly are both prolific to the point of causing confusion. I wonder if the two have met and what the conversation would have been like.

There's an aboriginal politician in Australia with the same name as me that I've always toyed of emailing, and it's not even a common name! I can only imagine what both Christopher Lloyds must feel as it doesn't seem common either.

My question about the show is why did Frasier have beers after work for 9 years but then thought only wine was the best, and that beer was for people like his dad for 11 years? :p

Hehe, you know that's a good question. I never thought of it. Must be one of those mysteries. In Frasier, he's supposedly higher class, but in Cheers, he's always at the bar. Maybe something happened that convinced him that he liked wine better? Maybe it points out a psychological problem with himself, in terms of having his Dad move in with him, who he had problems with at the time, and seeing that he was a beer drinker was enough to make him stop drinking it? It wouldn't be out of character for him to do that.

I always figured it was his need to raise himself up as a more refined person, now that he was away from his friends and his old life in Boston.

I think the idea was mostly that Frasier adapted himself to whatever situation he was in. When he was in Boston he got into that crowd and became a beer-drinker who enjoyed hanging out in a bar with a bunch of men-men.

But once he moved home to Seattle he fell into his old ways again and became a rich, pompous, ass.

There were many signs of his rich pompousness in Cheers, usually whenever he was home or with Lilith.

Makes sense; you could see the old Frasier come out whenever he was hanging out with one of his old Cheers buddies in the eps where they brought one of them back.

I think Niles had a big impact in that regard. When Frasier moved back he was confronted by the fact that Niles was a rich, successful snob and Frasier's competitive side kicked in again making him want to become a bigger snob than Niles.
