Frank Lapidus

I wonder what the rest of the 316 survivors are doing over on Hydra Island? And have they run into their new neighbors yet?

Re: Nikki and Paolo -- I too kind of see why they were universally hated, but they didn't bother me so much. That said, "Expose" was pretty hardcore. It's not nearly as dark as Ben watching Keamy execute Alex, but it's up there. Fucked up. Though I do agree -- there is a world of difference between watching LOST as broadcast versus on DVD.

Re: Frank -- I like the guy. LOST does seem to have it's own roster of 'secondary' characters who serve as catalysts to the main protagonists, but I do hope we'll find out more about him. Likewise, I'd like at least one more scene with Rose and Bernard, and an explanation about why the flight attendant from Oceanic 815 was with the Others all along (Locke runs in to her at the temporary camp the Others' set up in "The Brig.")

Cindy, the flight attendant, wasn't always with the Others. At first she was a survivor of the Tail section of 815 and lived with Anna Lucia, Eko and the rest on the other side of the Island. She was kidnapped by the Others when the Tailies, along with Sawyer, Mike and Jin, were making their way across the Island. In fact, it was her kidnapping that put everyone on edge and led to Anna Lucia shooting Shannon.

After she was taken the next time we saw her she, along with a bunch of other people (and the two kids), were on Hydra Island watching Jack in his cage. She was still in her normal clothes then and told Jack something like, "We are here to watch/observe". She also seemed kind of out of it, not sure what was going on.

Then the next time we saw her she was one of the Others (dressed like them, hanging out with them) at the temporary camp site.

So somewhere between watching Jack in his cage and being at the temporary camp, she must have been full accepted in to the Others.

Cindy would be a good vehicle for an Others-centric episode. "The Other three years"?

i think all the love for Frank is a testament to Jeff Fahey's acting ability.

His portrayal of Frank seems to me like if one of us were thrown into that situation. He's observing and making plans to react. But he's not overreacting in a way

Even though we see little of him, Fahey makes the most of whatever screen time he's been given.

Frank seems like a genuinely nice guy, and i'd actually be sad if his character was killed.

The one thing that is distracting to me is Jeff Fahey being clean shaven since the return. What made me like Frank was that he seemed to be a distinct & unique character. But since i've seen Fahey is so many other movies, it's now a little harder for me to just think of Frank as a character, rather than "Jeff Fahey as..." (like how it is for me with stars like Will Smith or Harrison Ford)

I will be pleasantly surprised to see if Frank has a bigger role leading up to the finale.

We don't know that Cindy was kidnapped. We know that Cindy was bringing up the rear of the Tailies group, and someone turned around, and she was gone. They all assumed she was taken/kidnapped. But we've never seen anything one way or the other that says she was actually taken.

(I think they will address this, and that's why we've continued to see her this season - my personal bet is that she was a mole for Jacob / the Others on that flight)

It's funny to read a LOST thread and suddenly hear a plane in the background. Just saying....

Though it's not really consistent with my understanding of how things work at this point, I wonder whether Smokie killed the pilot so quickly because Smokie -expected- the pilot to be Lapidus and was trying to get him out of the way.

Then again, AFAIK Jacob never touched Lapidus, though it would hardly be surprising if he had.

I like Frank. It's a shame though that he's finally an opening credits regular, yet he doesn't seem to have the kind of role he had in season 4.

Yeah, I prefer Frank's beard and Hawaiian shirt from season 4. It gave him a more laid back demeanor.

I thought this too, for a while. These are really the only two options, but given the events with Jack at the bear cage, I suspect that since she was put through what appears to be an orientation process, with the children, then she was abducted like them. It just seems to be the most logical conclusion, though, not concrete, by any means

Yah, and if she was a mole for the Others then they wouldn't have had to send Goodwin in to spy on them, they would have had their own spy already there.

Plus, if Jacob's protection only protects you from killing yourself, and not other people killing you (As Richard recently described to Jack) then the odds of a mole surviving the plane crash would be so remote there would be no point in attempting to put one on the plane and I doubt very many people would sign up for a suicide mission.

Also, if we are to believe that it was Desmond (not)pushing the button that brought down the plane, added to the fact that Ben and all the Others seemed surprised to see the plane crash, then I don't think Cindy's arrival was planned. So she couldn't be a mole or a spy.

Well, he probably had to shave for work.

Sully still had a mustache, and i think that might have been enough for me. (and while not quite as successful as Sully, Frank is still a good guy, and i'd feel good flying with him.)

Perhaps. Even if he kept his facial hair, he would probably need to keep it a lot more trim than it was in Season 4.

Apparently they did have big plans for Nikki & Paolo but when the fan outcry was so loud they dropped those plans and killed them off.

I still wonder what those plans would have been?

Nikki was going to find the part of the island where you can't wear clothes. Then the male viewers of Lost would've liked her more... until Hurley ended up in that area too.

His introduction was natural to the developing plot. His past intersected with the destinies of the main characters at the time. and In my mind, he's very much like Han Solo.

Actually, I was thinking more Ric Olie, the Queen's Pilot in The Phantom Menace who would always state what was happening on the screen.

Seriously though, I like Frank too and I hope we see some more of him. Someone on this board speculated that Frank might be a candidate since he was supposed to be on the plane and Smokey brutally killed the back-up pilot. Then again, another person pointed out that the back-up pilot was the only one who had an idea where they crashed. It would be interesting to have Frank be a dark horse candidate to take over for Jacob.

Jeff Fahey was one actor I was disappointed to see wind up in the straight-to-dvd pile, and we're talking the lower end stuff here. I also liked his short-lived TV series The Marshal.

This is really for a whole other thread & TV & other media, but it seems like other actors like CUba Gooding Jr. & Val Kilmer have been doing the same thing...
