Frank Frazetta has passed away...

Aw, crap. :( Frazetta is one of the most iconic imaginative artists of all time. He's been around about as long as I can remember, and he's been everywhere. A unique and brilliant talent. Few are as good and nobody's better.

RIP, Mr Frazetta. :(

I'd argue that the cause of death was a broken heart... his wife died less than a year ago. :(
I wouldn't be surprised. I've seen that happen before.

To this day, people are still stealing his brilliant work.

Yup, I said stealing. That's what we call it when there's no attribution.

He will be missed.

I honestly can't count the number of people who have told me they started reading regularly because of his covers on Conan novels.

Indeed! And let's not forget his Edgar Rice Burroughs covers as well. My mental image of Pellucidar is still heavily influenced by Frazetta . . . .

Even more than Conan, I remember him for the covers to Karl Edward Wagner's "Kane" books: Bloodstone, Dark Crusade, Death Angel's Shadow, Darkness Weaves, Night Winds ... the definitive depiction of the cursed red-haired character.

He also did a great Vampirella.

There's a nice little obit for him in USA TODAY this morning.
