Frank Darabont zombie show on AMC

Interesting. I read the first four or five TPBs, but then I got bored with it and haven't gotten back into it.

I think that this'll be good, but it's hard to imagine a zombie TV series on anything other than a pay channel. I wonder how they could possibly change it to be an AMC show.

They've shown some fairly rough stuff on Breaking Bad (that scene with the stolen ATM and the pissed off wife ferinstnace...) Maybe not flesh-eating-zombie bad, but certainly worse than mainstream networks. In theory, the FCC rules should not apply to anything but broadcast.

And anyway, look at Dexter: the actual amount of gore is surprisingly small. If you focus on the characters and story, the gore becomes secondary and can be downplayed without anyone really noticing or caring.

Funny, I was thinking some time ago that Sci-Fi er SyFy should do a series like this and in fact Walking Dead was specifically what I was thinking of even though I only have a passing familarity with the source material. My thinking was they should make a series that blends something (hopefully) decent with their Saturday Night fare.

I bet this is going to garner a good amount of buzz/word of mouth before it ever airs.

But gore isn't the only thing with the show. It has a LOT of adult themes involved with it that would be hard to translate to the small screen. I do agree with the FCC thing though; and I suppose if FX can get away with a lot of this (some of their shows have featured similar subject matter - minus the walking dead) I suppose that AMC can too.

One thing that'll be interesting though is that the comics have a history of killing off main characters despite their popularity; so that may be interesting to see on screen.

I'm really looking forward to this. I'm a huge fan of Darabont and the source material as well. It was a great comic.
