I always suspected the French were forward thinking!

I don't know. I am French myself and I am a little puzzled by this.
Aren't lightsabers little more than glorified neon tubes, IRL that is?

Light tube that can take a considerable beating in a duel. I have a few from Ultrasabers and they can be used for dueling with considerable force without breaking. Polycarbonate blades and aluminum hilts, with relatively robust electronics hold up rather well.

Yeah, that's impressive technology and probably costs an arm and a leg, since it isn't mass produced yet. I mean you don't see lightsabers everywhere unless you count the "fake" ones, that is the ones that would break like glass if used in combat.

They cost as little as $55 - $70 USD for ones without sound cards. With sound is in the $160 - $300 range, and those with more advanced lighting controller are around $500 USD or more. It goes more expensive after that based on how fancy you want the hilt.

You're right. It's definitely not as expensive as I thought. Well, when I was at school I learned "la canne" which is a French discipline that consists of fighting with a cane (it was a self-defense discipline initially so that people with a cane, IE most of them back then, could defend themselves against muggers, of course, that was back in the days when people walked with a cane for style. I was rather good at this, so I think I wouldn't be all bad at lightsabering. :D

I saw a news story about this earlier today, and I think it's awesome.

Whoa! The "French cane" technique looks even more energetic and frenetic than the LS strikes!

The second video looks choreographed.

I want to see a combatant do a backward somersault six feet into the air.
