Frakes and Stewart ready for another TNG film- A question...

I could see Stewart and Frakes doing new post-NEMESIS/2379 stuff for straight-to-DVD and BluRay projects...maybe even an exclusive online film or series of "episodes." But a big-budget TREK film in theaters? Not unless the Abrams movie tanks and/or is poorly received.

Patrick Stewart is a very expensive actor these days. It would be a brave made-for-DVD producer who could get a new TNG era set, cutting edge SPFX and Patrick Stewart into the same budget.

I'd say there's more chance of Patrick Stewart guest starring in a TOS-era ST XII. ;)

Correction. Patrick Stewart is a very expensive action depending on the project these days. Stewart and Spiner commanded large paychecks on the latter TNG films because they and their agents knew they could get Paramount to fork over the money. Neither commands the same kind of money in non-Trek projects.

It seems unlikely a TNG film would be made while Abrams is creating ~TOS movies. Besides, what is the 24 century history going to be like after the timeline alterations in the 23d centiry?

Here's the question-

If "Trek XI" alters the look of the TOS era as has been shown in photos and clips released, does this mean the look of the TNG era could end up altered as well, not resembling what we remember?
Ignoring the premise required for such a movie, I wouldn't expect any drastic alterations to the TNG-era canon with respect to sets and props. Any TNG movie would be post-Nemesis which means they would be free to advance with new things while maintaining continuity, just as they have done with all the TNG films.

Which always made me wonder why they wanted out of Trek so badly? Was there just no time? I know the number of high profile projects these two are associated is... oh wait...

There are many interesting roles out there that don't necessarily require such long hours under heavy makeup in uncomfortable costumes. Both actors enjoy stage work, too, and that rarely rates much of a publicity blip, or is recorded in IMDb online resumes.

Both actors are now comfortable and financially secure, and can afford to pick and choose.

They had better hope they are financially secure. Because they both had a hand in killing their golden goose.

I don't think Stewart would be too expensive for something like a straight-to-DVD/BluRay or online project if he really likes it. He's already expressed he's never lost his fondness for the Picard character and isn't adverse to playing him again in the future if at all possible. Stewart might waive a big fee if he thinks the project is sound enough and would be a proper followup to their TV show and big screen movies. He's not as big a money whore and as overdemanding and egotistical as Shatner.

The core problem is the age of the cast. They looked so worn out in Nemesis. Data could never work. I too would love to see another TNG film but it would be very difficult to make it work.

Well, technically Data's dead. B-4's appearance can always be explained as him being an older Soong prototype exposed to harsh environmental conditions over the decades before he was planted and then found on Kolarus III. Which would make Spiner less self-conscious in many respects because he would no longer be playing Data.

Especially Frakes. If he and Sirtis were offered a DVD/BluRay or Internet Titan movie they'd jump faster than Jesse Owens running from Germans in brown shirts.

A more accurate topic title:

Frakes and Stewart ready for another bucket of cash.

Shit, most of us wouldn't turn down the chance to see a DVD or Internet Trek movie starring the TNG people. We might dis or laugh at the concept right now, but if it came to fruition most of the people on this board would be eager to see it just because it'd be the first fresh material from that time frame and those characters in at least six or seven years.

Even if it did blow chunks.
