Frakes and Stewart ready for another TNG film- A question...

In a recent TREK TODAY article, Frakes is quoted as saying he thinks the new Trek movie will breathe life into the franchise, and open up some possibilities. He also says he was talking with Patrick Stewart recently, and that both of them would like to do another TNG film.

Now...

Here's the question-

If "Trek XI" alters the look of the TOS era as has been shown in photos and clips released, does this mean the look of the TNG era could end up altered as well, not resembling what we remember?

Or could you accept the sets, uniforms, and such looking pretty much the same, as if the timeline change sort of smoothed itself out by the TNG era, leaving the 24th century Trek shows and films still in continuity in most respects (or even all)?

EDIT:
Maybe we could even get Tasha's death erased, if nothing else. :D

Frakes needs to get off the crack pipe if he thinks him or Stewart will ever appear in another Trek film. Stewart cratered the movie franchise when he nixed Micheal Piller's Heart of Darkness treatment.

In the future, if there were to be a TNG feature film reboot, then I would not mind seeing a new TNG cast (Start from the beginning with Riker with no beard, Tasha being killed and replaced by Worf, have Wesley at helm but replace him with Ro for the sequel, etc.), an updated Enterprise-D that looks less like a gigantic lightup Christmas tree ornament, a new Q, an updated Borg, a new Guinan, and a new Ten-Forward lounge.

I think the studio response will be "don't call us and..."

What would be the point of doing a lame TNG remake? I'd rather see a sequel with the original TNG era cast!

There's really no telling what Viacom will do; studios are notorious for keeping their options open, especially with a property that has lots of angles to play, like the Star Trek franchise.

Even if, somehow, the Abrams film "reboots" the 23rd-century, I don't see that as precluding a 24th-century film. I'd like to think that fans are smart enough to figure out how things work together with the studio holding their hands and telling them how to make it fit.

When would it be? if they make money - Abhams has the film franchise locked down until at least 2012-2013?

I don't know. The way the studios think, they'd recast the whole thing, then get Stuart Baird to direct...

If "Trek XI" alters the look of the TOS era

If that happens, this new movie will definitely be not part of Star Trek....in a way it already is not...because they say it is a remake anyway
Except, y'know, it's called Star Trek.

Kinda makes it part of Star Trek.

no......that is the title of the first movie ever made....not much difference seeing as 'The Motion Picture' means movies-film....so they are the same title.....they say it is a remake anyway, so it makes no sense

Wow...well, first off, i think if there is any possibility it will depend on how well STXI will do at the box office. If it doesn't prove to be a blockbuster, i doubt it will ever happen. Secondly, if the powers that be feel that there is interest out there and $, then it would be complex in how they are going to bring them back in lue of XI. Its like having Kirk/Spock reunite and remaking another movie with a TNG movie going on at the same time 8 years ago. If there is ever a universe where this could be it is ST though. :)
They could have an ongoing adventure of Riker on Titan with a new crew or somehow make a plot where both Picard/Riker are reunited to fight a common foe. I would be open to anything ST so bring it on.

I just hope they don't make any movie that contradicts the post-nemesis novels. I know the books aren't "officially" canon, but to me and a lot of other people who've spent so much time writing and reading them, they are.

Most likely they will contradict

I could see Stewart and Frakes doing new post-NEMESIS/2379 stuff for straight-to-DVD and BluRay projects...maybe even an exclusive online film or series of "episodes." But a big-budget TREK film in theaters? Not unless the Abrams movie tanks and/or is poorly received.
