Fox orders Lethal Weapon pilot

The only thing I've seen him in was season 8 of 24, where he played Katee Sackhoff's redneck ex-boyfriend. He certainly didn't strike me as the new Mel Gibson.

Casting directors aren't, despite what we like to think, total idiots, so I'm willing to assume for now that they've seen something in him that I haven't. Still, it's not a casting choice that makes me want to sit up and squeal for joy.

Oh that's who that is!? I guess I didn't recognize him without the beard. He had a recurring role on NCIS: New Orleans for a while. He's a decent actor, now I'm interested to see how he'll do as Riggs.

That's a good trailer. This might actually work.

Certainly looks better than I expected though I keep picturing Gibson & Glover in those scenes and they're so much better! Still, I'll watch the pilot anyway.

Yeah, the trailer has me less interested than before. And I wasn't that hot on it to begin with.

That... actually looks pretty good. I'm sold.

I wonder if Fox is looking at Rush Hour and why it got cancelled and hopefully avoiding those pitfalls.

Wow, they got the "killer bus out of nowhere," "view up crosstreet through driver's window equals sideswipe," and "concussive effects and flying debris from bombs just require a Band-Aid" tropes all in one trailer (yes, I know that's how Riggs' wife died in the movies and that they also played fast and loose with being near massive explosions virtually unscathed).

The Lethal Weapon movies are some of my favorites (even the last two crappy but enjoyable ones) because of the dynamic between Riggs, Murtough, and their growing circle of family and friends (like the alliterative Leo, Lorna, and Lee Butters) as the films went on, and the show seems to at least grasp the importance of that too and isn't entirely about action. I like that they're revisiting Riggs joining the Murtough's family dinner and hope that becomes a recurring thing with him staying over at the house more often as the show goes on (and we'll see if the Murtough's home and cars suffer the consequences again).

They seem to have changed the dynamic between Riggs and Murtough a bit, with Riggs being slightly less whacky (yet still suicidal, risk taking, and irreverent) and Murtough being more of the comic relief instead of just the straight man (though he still does that too) to reflect Damon Wayan's background.

The trailer didn't blow me away, but it was solid enough that I'll definitely be checking this out in the Fall.

I liked it, but it tried to cram so much into so little time. And on top of that, it still felt like nothing much happened.

I will say this though, I'll be disappointed if this turns into just another procedural, though the pilot had hints of that, it still played up the relationship between the two leads. It also wasn't as horrible as the Rush Hour pilot, I could barely make it through that.

Well.. it ain't the movie that's for sure but then again it is a hard act to follow as it's one of the must see 80s action movies.

On it's own it works for today's audience and style but it's still pretty tame and bland to be honest. It's just not a very remarkable series and nothing truly stands out on its own even if you don't compare it to the original where it loses out in every category.

If it doesn't improve by a ton i can't see this being picked up for a second season or beyond the initial episode run.. people will not stop comparing it to the movie and the show unfortunately doesn't bring anything new, exciting or fresh to the story so far.

I'm off now to see the movie ;)

It was better than I thought it would be but not great. I know that there are a lot of differences between this show and the movies but why did they feel the need to even change the name of Martin's dead wife from Victoria to Miranda?

I think I'll go watch the movie too.

I watched it. It wasn't bad, but it didn't really stand out for me. The two leads just did not have the charisma and gravitas of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover.
