Fox Cancels Prison Break

According to Reuters.

Reilly also confirmed that this is the final season for "Prison Break." In addition to the remaining four episodes, there's a possibility of a couple more episodes being shot.

The show is just played out," Reilly said. "Creatively, everybody feels enough stories have been told. ... We want to finish strong and not just gimp out next season. They have a cool ending."

It should have stopped after the first season. Everything else was pointless. I'll allow perhaps a special to see what happened to everyone after they broke jail, but that's it.

Finally! I too thought the series was pointless after season 1. Not that the writers weren't unable to craft good stories, far from it (Fichtner's character being the primary example) but seriously, what happened to Michael after the prison break? He dropped like 200 IQ points! :wtf:

Prison Break was only intended to run two seasons: The first to get Linc out of prison, the second to clear his name. That would have been rather unusual for US TV, and it was really all the premise could stand. But it was a hit and Fox, in its "wisdom", decided it had to run a few seasons longer.

Anyway, this news isn't exactly a surprise.

I Thought it was winding down after this season, i didn't expect it to get annother full season. I have to say ive enjoyed watching it (even with the weak season 3).

You guys know that this is all part of the plot for Season 5, right? Cole Pfieffer, AKA Tea Bag, gets a job as a cost-cutting executive for the vast yet elusive "Network," and Michael, Linc, and their crack team of ex-cons have to collect several "Neilsen's Boxes" and then penetrate the Network's HQ in order to save the show.

^^^ This current (ongoing) season is the 4th season.

I agree that the premise has been stretched to unbelievable limits, but I still find the show immensely enjoyable while being fully aware of its absurdity.

Season 1 was really great, and I even liked Season 2. 3 is when I thought it got stupid. A chicken foot? Really? Season 4 is dying a slow and painful death. It took so long to get to the mid season cliff hanger and now they are wrapping up. I have the first 3 seasons on dvd-all as gifts. So I'll probably get 4, too. I like the cast and characters, just the writing has finally quit.

Add me to the list of "No surprise here".
I too have watched the show from the very beginning even with it's many, many  moments.
Honestly the current season was really getting on my nerves with yo-yo effect of silla/cilla (spelling?).

The show has well run it's coarse, best to put it to rest.

Whatever happened with the spin-off featuring "women in prison"?

It seems like during the second season, towards the end, they were going to introduce the female characters that were going to spin off to their own series. I read about it back then, and then never heard a thing about it.

Is the OP really surprised or just stating what most of us knew was already a long in the tooth premise being dragged out?

The OP was not surprised, nor does he particularly care because he doesn't watch the show. The OP just thought the people who do watch the show might be interested.

This was always intended to be the final season, hence them going directly after the Company to expose it. I've enjoyed all four years of the show but I'm glad it's ending now. I personally loved S3, it was a nice remix of S1 only more dangerous since there's no guards.

Count me in the Neither Surprised Nor Particularly Sorry camp, much I love the show. Season 1 was one of the most exciting tv runs ever, probably a better debut season even than 24 or Lost. Season 2 was even better. But really, it could have ended there - the final twist in the closer to that season was a bit too much. Season 3, while entertaining enough, was nowhere near as good as what had come before. Season 4 has been better, but not as good as the first two seasons. And there's the small matter of the show having totally moved away from its original premise.

This ought to give the writers enough time to wrap up the show and give it a proper ending. For my money, I agree with the comment that the show has come to a natural end. This isn't just another case of Fox cancelling a show that deserved to run for longer (Firefly, Arrested Development etc) but of ending a great show before it jumped the shark.

Whatever happened with the spin-off featuring "women in prison"?

The Futon Critic claims it's still in development although it'll be interesting to see what the cancellation will do for it - it'll either kill it entirely, or resurrect it now the producers are free from their parent show constraints to work on it...
